Summary:
Under general supervision is responsible for directing Housekeeping activities for an assigned area and shift in order to maintain the Hospital in a sanitary orderly and attractive condition.

 

Responsibilities:
Prepares work schedules and assigns work to subordinates directly and through Group Leaders. Adjusts schedules as necessary to provide coverage. Performs job interviews and makes recommendations for selection of subordinates.



Supervises assigned group of employees including continuous on-the-job training in proper work methods and use of equipment. Completes performance appraisals and makes recommendations for wage actions and status changes. Suspends subordinates when necessary. Conducts monthly meetings with subordinates to keep them informed of updated policies and procedures.

Maintains employee records such as attendance and time sheets. Prepares reports such as hour reports building code reports weekly project reports and quality control reports.



Prepares payroll for department. Prepares employees data changes as appropriate.



Inspects assigned work areas several times per day remaining alert for situations requiring special services such as Facilities maintenance of housekeeping projects work. Issues work orders and maintains quality control sheets.



Inspects work of each subordinate several times per day for completeness and quality. Performs quality assurance using Q&A forms.



Assists training supervisor by identifying areas in which subordinates may need additional training. May train employees directly.



Supervises set up for conferences and special functions.



Assists in evaluating and determining effectiveness or products equipment and procedures.



Interviews patients in reference to cleanness of facilities.



Assures that all equipment is properly maintained and in a safe working condition. Ensures that supplies and products are properly utilized.



Coordinates Housekeeping services with other departments such as Adult Pedi and Emergency Patient Services to assure efficient uninterrupted service to patients.



May perform all duties of Environmental Services Coordinator in other classified areas in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with the established department policy and procedures.



Conducts evaluates and documents driver road testing for new and existing employees. Validates their competency of operating the motor vehicle appropriate to their classification and in compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety regulations and the Brown University Health Fleet Risk Control Policy.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Supervisory ability necessary to direct the activities of both English speaking and non-English speaking service personnel.



Interpersonal ability to interact with a variety of levels of personnel throughout the Hospital.



Numerical and clerical ability to prepare schedules and reports.



Knowledge of effective Housekeeping techniques and procedures.



EXPERIENCE:

Two years prior experience in the monitoring and analysis of budgets preferably in the Environmental Services/Laundry field.



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Supervisory responsibility for up to 35 FTE's.



Continuous standing and walking occasional lifting climbing and pushing.



Occasional exposure to adverse elements such as inclement weather or contaminated areas when supervising employees and inspecting areas.
