Summary:
Responsible for the overall supervision of the delivery of patient care including all standards and rules associated with state and federal regulations. Ensures established departmental standards are being followed and promotes teamwork amongst all employees. Assists with managing and procuring equipment, supplies, and pharmacy needs that occur while on shift. Acts as the administrative representative when other administrative leaders are not present. The Nursing Supervisor will assist in resolving or referring problems as they arise and will assist in promoting high levels of quality care. This position reports to the Director of Clinical Services and will be the primary leader for the development and deployment of education requirements and clinical competencies. The Nursing Supervisor will also assist with operational nursing leadership of the ER and Inpatient Units as directed or assigned.
Responsibilities:
Adheres to mission, vision, and values of the organization while actively promoting CA Dean and Northern Light Health as a good place to work or receive health care. Follows all policies and procedures for CA Dean and Northern Light Health. Participates, develops, and assists with managing and deploying educational and competency activities for clinical team members. Education development includes the creation or maintenance of online modules for learning management systems (such as iCare). Instructs “live courses” for clinical team members such as Basic Life Support (BLS) and assists with the organization of “live” course offerings as an assistant instructor if not certified to work as the Primary Instructor. Creates posters, handouts, clinical reference tools, or bulletin boards to effectively communicate and distribute education concepts for clinical team members. Assists with the oversight of nursing student programs such as the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program and acts as a contact and resource for hospital clinical students (nursing students, EMS, etc.). Manages and leads Clinical Orientation for all new Registered Nurses and CNAs. Leads by example while maintaining high levels of professionalism. Communicates professionally verbally and with written communication. Remains courteous, approachable, helpful, and recognizable as an identified leader. Adheres to all safety procedures and applicable regulations. Assists with ensuring appropriate staffing levels are in place for all nursing units while considering acuity levels and unit census. Assists with the development and maintenance of the nursing schedule as needed or assigned. Promotes teamwork and deploys coaching techniques with all workplace initiatives as needs are identified. Provides feedback to clinical team members regarding performance, opportunities for improvement, or positive feedback for successes or achievements. Assists with maintaining an environment where external and internal customers are treated with dignity and respect. Maintains patient confidentiality as required by policy which also includes employee confidentiality. Responds to customers’ needs with professionalism and respect while responding appropriately to individual needs identified. Seeks opportunities to exceed patient and family expectations. Maintains clinical skills and competencies as required for hospital-based nurses. Constructively participates in (or leads when assigned) team meetings or hospital events. Maintains accountability with assigned tasks and projects following timelines as designed. Responds to all emergency code activations while on shift. Assist in problem mitigation and acts as a team leader when necessary. Participates in leadership development activities as directed or assigned. May be required to cover on call hours in the absence of the Director of Clinical Services. May be required to fulfil a staffing role if staffing deficiencies or emergencies exist. Committed to continued leadership development training as required or identified by the role. May be required to participate in clinical care and may be required to manage a patient assignment if needed. Must maintain nursing competencies in both the ER and Inpatient Units.

Competencies and Skills
+ 5+ years of relative work experience required.2 or more years of relative supervisory/training/leadership work experience. 5 or more years of RN experience in ER and Inpatient Units.

Education
+ Required Associate's Degree Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current licensure in the State of Maine. Associates degree (Bachelor’s Degree preferred)
