To clean the surface of castings using forced air-propelled sand. To prepare surfaces for inspection and/or grinding.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Sandblast Operations
Objective: to remove shell, scale, grinding marks and other material from castings.
Essential Job Functions:
A. Verifies lot and part identification.
B. Loads castings into shotblast cabinet; adjusts air pressure.
C. Operates the sandblast machine from outside the sandblast cabinet.
D. Sandblasts parts in cabinet by directing hand-held nozzles; uses different sized pipes and nozzles, depending on part.
E. Visually inspects sandblast parts to verify removal of materials and uniform color of parts.
F. Operates rotoblast machine; puts parts in machine and turns on.

2. Parts Polishing
Objective: to polish the surface of small parts castings using vibratory and abrasive flow machines to meet customer and PCC specifications.
Essential Job Functions:
A. Reviews part Technique Card for operation.
B. Sets up and loads fixtures and/or parts onto table or machine.
C. Places chemicals into fixture and adds compound and/or water as needed.
D. Inputs cycle times into control panel (of the abrasive flow machine); operates machines.
3. Maintenance and Cleaning
Objective: to maintain equipment in good working order and maintain a clean work area.
Essential Job Functions:
A. Performs minor equipment maintenance, including changing hoses and nozzles.
B. Cleans work area.
C. Adds sand to machine as needed.
4. Safety
Objective: to take responsibility for and demonstrate safe work practices.
A. Adheres to plant and department safety rules.
B. Safely operates all equipment and tools.
C. Identifies and reports safety problems.
5. Meets all production and quality standards.

6. Performs other tasks as directed.

3. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
4. Ability to work independently.
5. Physical ability to perform the essential job functions.
