Job Summary
Accountable for the generation, implementation, development, and management of systems to ensure facility compliance with all applicable Morton Salt, State, Federal, Local Health and Safety standards and regulations. Responsible for ensuring continued compliance and maintenance of the sites STAR status MSHA program. Instrumental in ensuring and promoting a plant-wide Safety and Production
Directs foremen in all activities of rock salt screening, including drying and screening of fine rock salt, the barge loading operation, loading of bulk cars/trucks and the return of product to the mill.
Duties and Responsibilities
Directs three foremen and tug captain in the efficient production and loading of a high quality product while complying with accepted safety procedures and the union contract. Evaluates condition of equipment and recommends scheduling of major maintenance. Reports to Mill Superintendent on a daily basis. Discusses production levels, problems and provides input for solutions. Reviews and approves production, preventative maintenance and other reports prepared by subordinates. Coordinates production, barge loading, bulk truck/car loading and product return to mill in a manner to comply with loading schedules. Maintains work place in a manner to minimize MSHA citations. Monitors budget performance and directs operation to maintain acceptable budget variances.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor’s Degree in related field or commensurate experience. Minimum five (8) years of experience mining preferred Extensive experience with MSHA regulations Knowledgeable in all phases of salt processing, mining Strong communication skills Computer skilled Ability to supervise people. Knowledgeable in modern safety procedures. High School with post-secondary education or training. College preferred. Specific training in Manager, Environmental, Health & Safety. MSHA experience strongly preferred but not required. Requires daily contact with employees in other departments. Requires routine interaction with internal stakeholders. Requires routine interaction with external stakeholders, including federal and state regulatory agencies.
Work Environment
Normal working schedule is daylight shift Responds to urgent or emergency situations outside of normal working hours, as needed. Works in seated or standing positions for prolonged periods of time. May perform sustained manual activities at moderate to heavy levels of exertion including lifting and moving loads of a minimum of fifty (50) pounds, climbing ladders/stairs and working on elevated platforms. Uses hand tools and operates fixed and mobile plant equipment. Works and travels throughout plant environment of varied temperatures and humidity. Wears personal protective equipment, as required and uses full range of motion. Performs duties in confined space entries. Works in general office and underground mining
