Position Responsibilities
· Obtains, verifies, and enters into the computer all pertinent data including date of admission, surgery, diagnosis, procedure, age and correct spelling of patient’s name.
· Lists special equipment’s / supplies necessary for patient are and communicates these needs to appropriate senior nurse and/or Main OR team leader.
· Prevents tool conflict scenarios by maintaining awareness of instrument/equipment limitations, within in surgical suites, when scheduling cases.
· Allows adequate time for each procedure according to physician statistics.
· Follows policy for block scheduling.
· Prioritizes room assignments for potential patient problems and equipment availability.
· Retrieves fax’s information into the computer.
· Schedules similar cases and/or physician in the same room to increase efficiency.
· Completes OR schedule, coordinates date from admitting and assignments from anesthesia.
· Prepares final copy of schedule at end of the day and distribute to assigned locations.
· Provides cross coverage for Data entry operator as required.
· Refers complex issues to or other appropriate resources.
· Follows-up on messages with a quick response time (within 10 minutes).
· Makes future schedule and close the day on routine basis.
· Runs appropriate reports as needed.
· Ensures function of computer, printer, fax machine by contacting appropriate personnel as needed.
· Responds to telephone calls promptly and acknowledges caller immediately.
· Uses proper telephone etiquette when receiving, transferring and placing calls on hold.
· Performs spell checks on complex medical terminologies.
· All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
· High School Diploma or equivalent
· One year as receptionist with clerical typing, computer literate, excellent telephone communication, able to read and write, comprehend oral and written instructions in English
