POSITION SUMMARY
+ Surgery Aides perform delegated duties of direct and indirect care under the supervision of a registered nurse, CRNA, MD or licensed practical nurse. General duties include assisting with patient care, operating room turnover and set up, patient transport, and supply stocking. The ability to function in a highly productive and stressful situations is essential. Good communication, flexibility, attention to detail and teamwork are essential components to the success of this position. Surgery Aides work toward the goals of the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center. High quality care and overall efficiency are essential components to this success.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
+ Education and Experience:
+ Previous healthcare experience preferred.
+ License/Certificates:
+ Minnesota Nursing Assistant registration required on hire OR completion of an approved nursing assistant training program within 6 months of hire. American Heart Association BLS required within 30 days of hire.
+ Special Skills and Aptitudes:
+ Basic understanding of the usual methods used in providing direct or indirect care to patients under RN, LPN, CRNA or MD supervision.
+ Capable of following and carrying out verbal and written instructions.
+ Effective interpersonal relation skills, observational and reporting skills.
+ Knowledge of applied science principles in situations involving procedures, hygienic and safety measures.
+ Ability to adapt resources to meet the needs of the situation, in a dynamically busy environment.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
+ + Assist the nurses in providing nursing care and services to patients.
+ Room patients, obtain height and weight.
+ Complete vital signs including BP, HR, RR and Sp02, and promptly communicate any concerns to the RN.
+ Provide appropriate care for patients who will be undergoing or are recovering from orthopedic surgery.
+ Collect basic lab specimens.
+ Complete skin and nasal antisepsis on pre-operative patients.
+ Assist patients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene and dressing as needed.
+ Assist with ambulating and transferring patients and use assistive devices as needed.
+ Assist in dietary needs by delivering patient light meals an assist with feeding as needed. Maintain understanding and awareness of potential dietary restrictions.
+ Respond to call lights and assist patient with basic needs and provide comfort.
+ Readily available in emergency situations to be a runner or resource person.
+ Exercise concern for patient's welfare above all else.
+ In addition to direct patient care, the surgical aide is instrumental in ensuring that the unit is a clean, safe, and efficient environment to provide effective and compassionate patient care.
+ Demonstrates Standards of Excellence when other duties are assigned.
