Summary: The Veterinary Technician Assistant – Surgery Receiving will engage in responsibilities combined between receiving and sterilization. This role will be “home based” out of the surgery receiving area with time occasionally spent in sterilization. This role will also provide support in the anesthesia induction area as needed.
Reports to: Surgery Supervisor
Schedule: 7a-5p Tues-Fri & Rotating weekend shift (3hrs)

Specific Duties:
Pack prep:
Clean instruments
Soaking instruments in sink and gross decontamination between procedures
Operation of ultrasonic cleaner
Instrument drying
Wrapping instrument packs
Instruments in self seal pouches
Autoclave use
Loading
Emptying
Run gas sterilizer
Anprolene certified
Restocking OR’s
Suture
Instruments (glass cabinets)
Needles/syringes
Micro extension sets
Turn over OR’s and clean sterile hallway Changing out nitrogen tanksReceiving responsibilities:
Client communications:
Obtaining history
Fielding post-operative questions/concerns
Appointment/procedure scheduling
Scheduling and reviewing discharge instructions with clients
Processing and filling prescriptions in-hospital and to pharmacy
Patient handling and restraint
Obtaining and restraint for radiographs
Checking surgery voicemails/email
Interactions with scheduling coordinator (Ellen)
Transporting patients to/from exam rooms
Assisting with bandage changes
Removal of IVC & general patient grooming
Submission of samples/blood to the lab
Submission of diagnostics for review (X-Ray, CT)
Work directly with surgeons during appointments and lab follow-up
Restocking (general supplies & bandage cart)
Additional responsibilities:
End of day tasks for anesthesia induction area
Cleaning overall space
Restocking
Wet table
Endotracheal tubes
Cleaning endotracheal tubes and hand sink area
Operations of ICU laundry
Cleaning ICU runs and cages after discharging patients
