Job Description
The Surgery Scheduler is responsible for accurately scheduling all surgical procedures, ensuring they are aligned with the allocated time, availability of surgical equipment, instrumentation, and potential conflicts. The role involves effectively communicating surgical procedure information to applicable staff and confirming surgery start times with the surgeon’s office. Additionally, the Surgery Scheduler provides exceptional customer service by greeting and directing visitors and patients, answering routine inquiries, and managing phone calls.
Responsibilities
+ Accurately schedule all surgical procedures based on allocated time, availability of surgical equipment, instrumentation, and potential conflicts.
+ Communicate surgical procedure information to applicable staff.
+ Confirm surgery start times with the surgeon’s office.
+ Greet and direct visitors and patients promptly, courteously, and helpfully.
+ Answer telephones, route calls, take messages, and provide general information.
+ Complete the registration process for admitting a patient for surgery.
+ Obtain necessary consent and/or acknowledgment signatures from patients and/or responsible parties.
+ Ensure patient demographic and billing information is properly filled out and entered into the system; verify and update patient insurance information as needed.
+ Ensure arrangements for payments, including collecting deposits, co-pays, and other monies; transmit the information to Collectors prior to the date of service to enable them to collect from the patient and complete daily deposits.
+ Serve as the direct contact for the clinical staff to monitor the flow of patients from admission to discharge.
+ Maintain daily schedules and follow office scheduling procedures.
+ Copy, file, and/or scan and save materials as requested; send facsimiles.
+ Assist in preparing pre-operative orientation packets for patients, including assembling surgical charts.
+ Develop and maintain an effective working relationship with patients, families, visitors, and staff.
+ Act as a liaison between patient friends/family and clinical staff as needed.
Work Environment
The work environment is professional and involves direct interaction with patients, families, visitors, and clinical staff. The role requires the use of standard office equipment such as telephones, photocopiers, and fax machines. The Surgery Scheduler will work in a medical facility with a dress code that aligns with professional and clinical standards.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $30.00/hr.
