Completion of CNA program preferred. Good oral and written communication skills; ability to follow-up on information with staff members.

Completion of Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago Medical Center CPR certification requirement.
Job Duties:
Transfers and lifts patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers, banana carts, beds, cribs and other vehicles utilizing safe and appropriate body mechanics, posture and lifting techniques.
Handles equipment that may accompany the patient such as drainage tubes, central lines or respiratory equipment.
Retrieves/delivers required items for patient care to team members as called upon adhering to specific procedures detailed for each department such as refrigeration requirements or time sensitive nature of certain items.
Provides direct patient care assistance or support under the direction/supervision of a member of the surgical services team, for example, serving as a runner for items during a complex surgical procedure such as a liver transplant or assisting with holding/positioning patients.
Practices universal precautions in the care of patients and handling of supplies/equipment/specimens as directed by hospital and department procedures and policies.
Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.
Assists in the retrieval and delivery of medications, blood and/or pharmaceutical products from tube system to the patient care provider.
Assists in the turnover and set-up of Operating Rooms by cleaning all patient care equipment, checks case carts, prepares positioning devices, opens sterile supplies and ensures all needed equipment is available for the procedure.
Retrieves/delivers surgical specimens per schedule to the appropriate laboratory destination and ensures the specimen is properly labeled prior to accepting the item for delivery. Prior to end of shift does a final check of specimen laboratory refrigerator and delivers all specimens.
Manages linen and solution distribution noting expiration dates in accordance with policy. Changes linens on inpatient beds.
Stocks operating rooms, pass throughs and central cores as needed ensuring supplies have not expired. Stocking bins to be dusted every two weeks.
Maintains PAR levels of all unit equipment such as suction machines, pumps, carts, O2 tanks, etc.
Cleans refrigerators/freezers/microwaves in the staff break rooms in accordance with the hospitals Infection Prevention and Control standards/protocols.
Assists in case cart assembly and distribution.
Demonstrates appropriate communication with patients and their families, hospital staff and the public at all times to assure successful transportation of patients, supplies and equipment. All communication should be conducted courteously and clearly within the guidelines of the professional image standards.
Position requires availability for on-call rotation to assist with complex procedures such as transplant and/or cardiac cases.
