SURGICAL TECH
Basic Function:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Surgical Services, Perioperative Coordinator/Educator, OR Charge RN and Staff RN, the Surgical Technician assists in the care and preparation of the patient for surgery. The Surgical Technician anticipates the needs of the surgeon in instrumentation, suture, sponges and supplies while passing instruments during surgical procedure.
Takes call as assigned by the Director of Surgical Services. Must maintain BLS certification.
Education, Training and Experience:
Successful completion of one or more of the following:
A Licensed Practical Nurse (L.P.N.) may perform scrubbing duties. Certification is not required but preferred. A Surgical Technologist with previous on the job training must have at least 1-year experience. A Surgical Technologist without previous on the job training must have completed an accredited Surgical Technologist Program. Surgical Technologist Certification is preferred. A Surgical Technician must achieve Surgical Technician Certification to enter a Surgical Assisting program. Maintains current BLS Certification.Must be computer-literate to complete task (s), as required-such as Meditech (hospital support software), Halogen (performance appraisal system), Relias (education system), ability to retrieve emails, complete on-line enrollment for health insurance/benefits and any other programs, as assigned.
SURGICAL ASSISTANT
Basic Function:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Surgical Services, Perioperative Coordinator/Educator, OR Charge RN and Staff RN, the Surgical First Assistant assists in the care and preparation of the patient for surgery. Responsibilities include: assisting with positioning and surgical prep of the patient, scrubbing and passing instruments or assisting for surgical procedures, preparing operating rooms with necessary equipment, instruments and supplies, maintaining and ordering supplies and housekeeping duties as directed. Takes call as assigned by the Director of Surgical Services. Must maintain BLS certification.
Education, Training and Experience:
Successful completion of one or more of the following:
A Licensed Practical Nurse (L.P.N.) may perform scrubbing duties but must have completed an approved Surgical Assistant program for Surgical Assisting. Certification is preferred. A Surgical First Assistant must have completed a Surgical First Assistant Program. Certification is required.. A Surgical First Assistant must also have completed a Surgical Technician program. Surgical Technologist Certification is required. Maintains current BCLS Certification. Must be computer-literate to complete task (s), as required-such as Meditech (hospital support software), Halogen (performance appraisal system), Relias (education system), ability to retrieve emails, complete online enrollment for health insurance/benefits and any other programs, as assigned.
