8 Operating Rooms-Heavy on Ortho procedures

The Surgical Assistant functions as the first/second assist during operative and other invasive procedures in accordance with credentials, privileges, expertise, education and competency verification. Functions as a member of the surgical team in room preparation, turnover, and facilitation of the daily surgery schedule.
Essential Functions:
Demonstrates knowledge of anatomy and physiology relating to surgical procedures. Displays ability to relate knowledge to assist the surgeon. Positions patient on the operating room table maintaining proper body alignment. Assists with providing the patient with a safe and supportive environment by demonstrating and understanding of patient rights, abuse and appropriate interventions and Advance Directives.
Functions as a first/second assistant by providing exposure through correct use of instruments, retractors, suction, and sponging techniques as directed by the surgeon. Handling and dissecting tissues as directed by the surgeon. Clamping blood vessels, coagulating bleeding points and ligating vessels as directed by the surgeon. Place drains and suture muscle, facia, subcutaneous and skin as direction by the surgeon.
Serves as a resource to peers, colleagues, and others in relation to first/second assist activities. Demonstrates and promotes teamwork. Collaborate effectively with other disciplines as applicable. Use problem solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members. Promotes cost containment efforts.
Maintains regulatory, credentialing and privileging requirements necessary for practice as a first assist. Participate in ongoing education and competency verification activities. Maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.
Schedule Requirements:
Weekly On Call requirements with 30 minute response time
Weekend Rotation
MINIMUM EDUCATION
Required Minimum Education: Vocational/Technical Degree
Specialty/Major: Graduate of a Surgical Assistant program or equivalent
Preferred Education: 4 year/Bachelors Degree
Specialty/Major: Graduate of a Surgical Assistant program or equivalent
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS (must be non-expired/active unless otherwise stated):
Required: BLS
Preferred: CST or CSA, CSFA, SA-C or equivalent certification
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Years and Type of Experience: 2 years of perioperative experience
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word)
