Surgical Case Coordinator

The Surgical Case Coordinator is responsible for the functions of the front office.  This includes communicating with physicians, the OR/PACU/SDS/Endoscopy staff, CRNAs, ancillary departments, physicians’ office staff, contractual associates, other hospitals, sales representatives, as well as nursing and ancillary services to effectively and efficiently deliver surgical services to patients.

Responsible for answering incoming calls for the department, handling them or disseminating them appropriately.  Pages internal staff overhead when necessary, also utilizes the outside paging system when needed. Communicates effectively with staff to assure all necessary information needed to perform efficient and effective billing is present in the patient records.  Inputs data into the computer for all billing functions of Surgery, PACU, and Same Day Surgery Departments.  Uses computer systems to do the billing.  In the absence of the Surgery Scheduler/Clerical Supervisor, the Surgical Case Coordinator will assist with the scheduling of cases.  Adds emergency cases to the schedule when necessary. Maintains all appropriate scheduling records, patient records, etc. Communicates the needs of the surgical schedule to support departments.  Communicates disruptions and alternations in assignments to all involved in the case (i.e., physicians’ offices, physicians/surgeons, anesthesia, surgery personnel, nursing units and ancillary departments) as required.  Maintains good working rapport with physicians, operating room, and ancillary staffs.

 

High school diploma. Must have a working knowledge of medical terminology, and computer systems.  Keyboarding skills are required.   Previous scheduling or registration experience preferred. Must be a self-starter, with ability to function with minimal supervision.
