Working with colleagues who love what they do and are deeply committed to our Mission, you too can be part of our transformation across the enterprise Surgical Coordinator Dr. Answorth Allen Full-Time Position Overview: Hospital for Special Surgery, #1 in Orthopedics for the last 13 years, is currently looking for an experienced and energetic Full Time Surgical Coordinator for one of our physician offices. Dr. Allen is an orthopedic sports surgeon specializing in shoulder, knee, and elbow surgery. In this role you will provide comprehensive administrative support to an HSS physician practice and contribute to an environment of clinical excellence. You will be responsible for maintaining and improving the clinical and administrative workflow of a busy surgical orthopedic practice. Your duties will entail coordinating all aspects of surgical procedures for patients; anticipating the needs of patients as they arise. You must feel comfortable discussing and/or negotiating financial responsibility with patients with regard to their surgeries. A working knowledge of insurance carriers, deductibles, co-insurances, authorizations, in-network vs out-of-network benefits is necessary to successfully communicate with patients and collect for the practice. Additionally, you will schedule and coordinate patient appointments and serve as the point of contact for the practice. You will also perform a variety of clerical functions including inventory control and payroll management via Kronos. Your role is essential to promoting a professional atmosphere through courteous communication, cooperation and respect for patients, visitors and members of the healthcare team. In addition, you will be responsible for upholding stellar customer service practices for patients and families, as well as acting as a liaison to the physician and hospital departments. DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Competencies/skills: + Consistently displays a positive attitude towards one’s work and work environment + Knowledge of and experience with scheduling surgical procedures both inpatient and outpatient; coordinating pre-op operative appointments and medical clearances + Experience with Epic preferred; strong computer skills required + Knowledge of healthcare and health insurance, required + Superior written and oral communication skills + Exceptional customer service skills + Perform financial transactions and related functions when appropriate and directed by physician or office manager + Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment + Ability to follow through with tasks to completion + Strong organizational and problem-solving skills + Ability to effectively and accurately follow directions or instructions + Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team; offers to help coworkers when needed + Detail-oriented + Work independently on assigned tasks with minimal supervision Qualifications Associate’s degree required, Bachelor’s degree highly desirable. 5-7 years physician office experience may be considered in lieu of education To qualify you must have an Associate’s Degree and at least two years of related MD office/healthcare experience. Familiarity with medical terminology and general office protocol required. The ability to type 45-60 words per minute and exceptional organizational strengths are required, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. LOCATION: HSS West Side with occasional travel to Long Island. Other Requirements #LI-Onsite Pay Range - Minimum USD $34.81/Hr.
