Surgical Coordinator

Reporting to the Director of Nursing, the Surgical Coordinator ensures the appropriateness of referrals and facilitates the process of placement into the correct clinic appointment based on the patient's needs. This position will handle incoming referrals to the surgery clinic by reviewing, authorizing, and coordinating all aspects of surgical specialty referral alignment to correct services by following criteria and guidelines discerned as the appropriate protocol for the referral. This position is responsible for obtaining referral request documentation, compiling all pertinent medical data and supporting documentation, and verifying referral appropriateness to surgical specialty or aligning to appropriate specialty.
Hourly Pay Range: $16.87 - $24.88
Qualifications
Education: Requires a high school diploma or GED. Prefer an Associate's degree in Healthcare Management or related degree.
Experience: Must have a minimum of one (1) year of patient medical referral processing or related experience that demonstrates an understanding of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Prefer experience in a surgery center, medical office, or other healthcare organization. Specialized Training: Prefer successful completion of a Bilingual Assistant course. Certification/Licensure: Prefer certification as Medical Assistant, RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician), RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator), or similar healthcare certification. Must have a valid fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety or submit a completed Affidavit at the time of hire. Must complete fingerprint clearance card application within seven (7) days of hire date. Must present actual card within 90 days of applying for a fingerprint clearance card. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must have knowledge in navigating through Epic and EHR systems to pull relevant data. Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Must have knowledge of medical terminology. Must have the ability to maintain confidential patient information, accuracy of documentation, and attention to detail. Requires basic math, data entry, and keyboarding skills. Must have critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Bilingual in Spanish, including fluent oral and written language, is required. Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills both verbally and in writing including knowledge of basic grammar, spelling & punctuation. Requires the ability to read, write, and speak effectively in English.
