Surgical Physician Assistant will provide medical services within the education, training, and experience of the surgical physician assistant that is delegated by the supervising Chief PA and Medical PA Director for Women’s Health OBGYN.
Medical services rendered by physician assistants may include, but are not limited to, obtaining patient histories and performing physical examinations; writing progress notes, procedure notes and monthly care plans, ordering and/or performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; formulating a diagnosis; developing and implementing a treatment plan; monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions; offering counseling and education to meet patient needs; making appropriate referrals. Physician Assistants, in an emergency, shall be authorized to treat any medical disease and/or perform any medical and surgical procedures at the hospital for affiliates. An emergency, for these purposed, is defined as a situation in which any delay in administering treatment would result in serious harm to the patient or an immediate threat to life of the patient and that a qualified practitioner is not immediately available.
Job Responsibilities
Clinical Duties Including but not limited to :
Abscess, Incision & Drainage, Anesthesia, local, Arterial Punctures, Arterial Line, removal, Bladder Irrigation EKG Recording Foley Catheters, insertion and removal Injections, Sub Q, IM intradermal for minor ER surgery Intravenous Medication Administration Nasogastric Tubes, insertion and removal First Assist in the Operating Room Assist in preform D & C or D&E Surgical Dressings, application/removal Sutures and/or staple removal Venipuncture Wound Debridement ER consult and floor consults Admit patients, f/u patients in service and write daily progress notes Order and interpret diagnostic labs and imaging Preop and post-op care Obtain informed consents as needed Update Beta list Prostaglandins insertion for medical termination endometrial, cervical, vaginal and vulva biopsy Accessing of port-a cath Coordination of care at time of discharge for safe transfer to outpatient care
Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree Required; Master’s Degree Preferred
• Graduate of an accredited Physician’s Assistant program
• Registered as a Physician’s Assistant in New York State
• NCCPA certified
• BLS required
