The Department of Clinical Sciences mission is to assure the health and productivity of animals to meet societal needs through high quality educational programs for professional veterinary medical students, graduate veterinarians, and the public through a faculty and veterinary medical center of excellence, and to advance and disseminate comparative biomedical knowledge in an environment of interdisciplinary collaboration.

Position Summary
Act as the supervising veterinarian or veterinary technician/nurse, and fulfill the associated duties, to support the execution of the Fundamentals of Surgery Laboratory ( FSL ) program when the primary FSL instructors fall ill, become injured or require other such coverage.
The FSL rotation is a one-week surgical skills training program for third-year CSU DVM students that focus on practicing core skills associated with surgical procedures in models, cadavers, and live animals. Core skills include aseptic techniques (patient, surgeon), instrument identification and handling, suture selection and handling, and execution of various suture patterns appropriate to the procedure and patient.
This position will be in person, on site at the NOCO Humane in Loveland, CO at 3501 E 71st St (80538). The NOCO Humane portion of the rotation (occurring Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of outlined weeks of the fall/spring semester) provides live animal reproductive surgical experience (spay/neuter) in unowned shelter cats and dogs. The outline weeks in the fall/spring semester will be provided in advance to a successful candidate to ensure coverage can be achieved.
Candidates may also be offered additional opportunities to interface with surgical skills training in fourth – year elective rotations as well as participation in other community outreach projects, as needed. These are ancillary duties that are not foundational to the surgical Skills Instructor position and are offered as a potential added benefit for interested candidates. Ancillary duties are compensated at an alternate rate, which will be discussed if candidate is interested in offered opportunities.
Position Minimum Qualifications
+ DVM / VMD degree from an AVMA accredited school
+ Active Colorado DVM license in good standing
Preferred Qualifications
+ Experience in high-quality high volume spay/neuter and/or anesthesia and soft tissue surgery
+ Strong technical skills
+ Teaching experience or desire to teach
+ Experience working in an animal welfare organization
