Surgical Support Technician

Position Summary: Supports the Mission, Vision and Values of the Hospital. Facilitates smooth operation of patient care services through broad range of clerical and support services. Assists surgery team with direct/indirect patient care activities including sterile procedure setup. Intraoperatively, the Surgical Support Technician practices at the direction of the surgeon and does not concurrently function as a surgical technologist.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Assists in maintaining safe and orderly patient care environment adhering to all safety standards and policies & procedures.Demonstrates competency and knowledge in performing specified skills, including transporting and activities that occur in a sterile environment.Assists with supplying OR suites with stock items; supplies blanket/fluid warmer; runs errands that support patient care activity.Assists with room turnover by performing activities such as, but not limited to, sweeping, mopping, removing trash, and disinfecting as appropriate.Scrubs in during procedure to “hold extremity and/or retractor” as required adhering to surgery asepsis principles.After completing unit specific competency cut suture at the direction of the physician.Responds to real or simulated emergency and disaster situations according to established procedures.Assumes responsibility for obtaining current information related to the patient care and attends all mandatory in-services.Demonstrates ability to perform job duties in an organized fashion and is able to establish priorities in an independent, timely fashion.Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality.Participates in all performance improvement activities.Provides for the age specific needs of the population served according to department standards, as evidenced by observation, documentation, and peer feedback.( ) Newborn - Birth to discharge from McLaren-Port Hruon

Performs other related duties as required and directed.15. Has procedure knowledge related to normal/abnormal anatomy; ability to anticipate and provide for potential complications; confirms that instrumentation is appropriate for patient, age, and size.
Qualifications:
Required:
High School Diploma or GED. CPR issued by American Heart Association and BLS Minimum of one (1) year experience in a patient care area
Preferred:
