**Responsibilities** **Job Summary:** Serves as surgical scrub that works with the surgeon to perform operative procedures in the operating room. Member of surgical team who works under the direction of the surgeon and surgical registered nurse. **Essential Functions:** + Performs surgical scrub duties in accordance to hospital and AORN standards. + Ensures that the proper surgical equipment, instrumentation and supplies are operational and readily available for use. + Utilizes proper aseptic techniques during every procedure. + Before and after surgery may perform the following duties: + Sets up operating room prior to surgery by providing correct equipment, instruments, packs and supplies for the kind of procedure to be done. + Assists in placing patients in prescribed body positions to assure access to the operative area. + Assist in operating room turnover. + Assists in the transportation of patients to recovery room and/or other areas as needed. + Manage the care and maintenance of instrumentation used during operating procedures. + In collaboration with the circulating nurse, they ensure the following: + Blood and fluid calculations are accurate. + Sponge and sharp counts are performed in a timely and accurate manner (in accordance to hospital policy). + Complies with surgery department and hospital policies and procedure. Adheres to safety policies. + Communicates with peers, other health team members. Supports unit team. + Maintains good attendance. Arrives to work punctually. + Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. **Qualifications** **Required Licensure and Certifications:** + Graduation from an accredited school for surgical technology or demonstrated training and experience from the military or demonstrated other operating room technician experience within the last year required **Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities** : + Skills to work independently essential. + Ability to speak, read and write English effectively is essential. + Ability to apply technical/professional knowledge as appropriate. + High degree of accuracy is required. + Ability to utilize computer to access e-mail, education and electronic medical record/order entry. **Preferred Qualifications:** + Current national certification as a Surgical Technician **Overview** CHI St. Anthony Hospital is a 25 bed, licensed for 49, faith-based, acute care, level four trauma, critical access hospital and healthcare campus serving the Pendleton, Oregon area for more than 100 years.
