Surgical Tech Apprentice

Job Summary:
Under the immediate supervision of Nurse Manger and/or Supervisor, Surgery, and the clinical guidance of a registered nurse and surgical technologist. Supports the department following basic patient care principles.
Minimal Acceptable Job Qualifications
Registration/Certification/Licensure:
CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation) within three (3) months of hire
Experience:
No specific experience is required.
Education:
Minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent (GED) and is currently a first or second year student in an accredited school of Surgical Technology. Students must complete an initial classroom learning component, which includes basic laboratory check-off stations provided by and according to student Surgical Technology Program. Documentation of completion must be provided to facility prior to student participation.
Job Knowledge & Skills:
1) Demonstrates working knowledge of the English language, verbal and written.
2) Requires knowledge of sterilization procedures and aseptic techniques.
3) Demonstrates a fundamental knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments and supplies utilized in the
operating suite/treatment room.
4) Requires basic working knowledge of the normal growth, development, related behaviors, needs,
comfort, and range of treatment appropriate to the age (including neonate, child, adolescent, aging
adult) and diagnosis of patient served to support the provision of an individualized interdisciplinary plan
of care.
5) Demonstrates well developed interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact effectively
with all internal and external unit customers, as needed.
