Position TitleSurgical Tech Educator (Bell Hospital Operating Room)Bell HospitalPosition Summary / Career Interest:The Surgical Technologist Educator plans group and individualized technical educational initiatives to promote exemplary professional practice and quality patient care. Merging innovative thinking with evidence-based practice, the Educator empowers the learner to improve outcomes by promoting professional development of the learner; provides expertise in adult learning theory and generational learning principles to promote quality technical educational events; utilizes advanced critical thinking and leadership skills to implement the department's technical educational goals and maximize the impact thus encouraging retention of information; provides oversight and coordination of technical educational endeavors to minimize duplication or unnecessary tasks.Responsibilities and Essential Job FunctionsPromotes evidence-based practice and research related to Surgical Technology and the educational processes utilized in training and development of staff. Uses effective design principles to assess, plan, deploy and evaluate educational interventions.Utilizes adult learning principles and multigenerational learning theory to provide quality educational programs.Orients new staff and instructs all levels of staff in equipment use, basic competencies, procedures and compliance.Is responsible for ongoing development of clinical competencies and professional behaviors and communication. Facilitates critical thinking and provides training that builds on the technical and interpersonal competencies of staff.Assures that processes are in place for documentation of orientation and other educational activities, and that employee files meet hospital and regulatory requirements.Maintains effective working relationships among departments, managers, physicians and staff.Responsible for maintaining an annual Preventive Maintenance schedule for all equipment.Participates in the development and review of departmental practices.Models purposeful, direct, and assertive communication with staff, peers, managers and administration.Provides leadership and supports task forces and teams in promoting the goals of the department.Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.These statements are intended to describe the essential functions of the job and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities. Required Education and ExperienceSurgical Tech Education.High School Graduate3 or more years of progressively responsible experience as a Surgical Technologist.
Preferred Education and ExperienceMaster's Degree in Education from an accredited college or university or related field within 3 to 5 years.Bachelors Degree in a related field of study from an accredited college or university.Associates Degree in a related field of study from an accredited college or university.Education and Staff development experience.Previous experience in program leadership and development.
