The Operating Room Surgical Technician delivers intraoperative care to surgical patients, primarily in the scrub role, across a diverse patient population, including neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
Essential FunctionsScrub in on surgical cases within specialty and assist in other areas with minimal direction.
Maintain knowledge of equipment setup and functionality, seeking assistance when needed.
Assist in the circulating role under direct supervision of an RN.
Prepare for surgical cases efficiently, anticipating the needs of the patient, surgeon, anesthesia, and O.R. team.
Ensure a safe environment by adhering to aseptic techniques and department/hospital policies.
Communicate effectively with patients, staff, and physicians.
Marginal FunctionsParticipate in the orientation of new personnel.
Assist in the maintenance of physician preference cards.
Contribute to departmental Performance Improvement activities.
Attend department meetings and in-service training.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities RequiredCompletion of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within six (6) weeks of hire, from an accepted credentialing body (e.g., American Heart Association).
Completion of Adult and Child Mandatory Reporter abuse training within three (3) months of hire.
