Position Purpose
This position is responsible for staff development, which includes the application of adult education principles, as well as patient and family education. The incumbent performs an outcome evaluation relative to clinical practice, provides consultation to other health care providers and is an excellent clinician.
Nature and Scope
The position is accountable for advanced knowledge in the specialty area and applies theories and concepts derived from the biological and behavioral sciences. The incumbent is also accountable for integrating adult learning theory into training and education.
The position requires leadership skills. These leadership skills include role modeling, coaching, and monitoring to develop the ancillary staff in the surgical department, to include but not limited to Surgical Technicians, Anesthesia Technicians and Surgery OR Assistants. The incumbent also has consultation skills to collaborate with department leadership teams in addition to other departments and professionals within the hospital as well as in the community.
The position requires advanced clinical practice skills. These include onboarding and professional development for the ancillary staff in the surgical areas. The incumbent also assists with legal and regulatory standards to maintain quality care.
The incumbent also has advanced adult education skills. The major challenge is to develop the staff using a variety of adult learning principles including didactic, self-directed, and clinical modalities. The position requires outcome evaluation of these teaching and learning strategies.
The incumbent must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, motor/sensor, psychosocial, and safety appropriate to the age of the patient served and meets standards of quality care in the surgical area.
Evidence based practice, along with critical thinking skills are required to provide optimally safe patient care when interacting with internal and external contacts and exercising judgment and making decisions.
The Surgical Technician Educator will train and develop the following positions: Surgical Technicians, Surgery OR Assistants and Anesthesia Technician.

Education:
Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English. Diploma from an accredited Surgical Technician Program/School.
Experience:
Minimum of two years clinical experience in the specialty area preferred.
License(s):
Ability to obtain and maintain a Certified Surgical Technician Active License.
Certification(s):
Requires current BLS certification by the American Heart Association standards.
Computer / Typing:
Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
