Surgical Technician Intern - Perioperative - FT - Day

Work Shift:

Position Overview:

Performs effectively as a student in an academy style classroom setting that includes both didactic training and hands-on experience within Perioperative services. Learns how to safely, efficiently work with surgeons and other health care practitioners providing patient care in all surgical specialty procedures. Learns instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during surgical procedures. Gains the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care in the operating room setting. Expectation for intern program completion is 18 weeks.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: High school diploma or GED.

Experience: Two years related clinical, medical, healthcare environment experience. Direct patient care experience preferred.

Other Credentials: AHA BLS. Non-Licensed must obtain before end of orientation period

Knowledge and Skills: Good interpersonal and communication skills, detail orientated and highly organized. Proficient in English reading, writing and speaking skills.

Special Training: Required to sit for NCCT Surgical Tech certification upon completion of didactic courses.

Mental, Behavioral and Emotional Abilities: Excellent attention to detail. Excellent listening skills.

Usual Work Day:8 Hours  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSCompletes ALL required assignments. This includes but is not limited to classwork, homework, and 18 weeks of on-line training through Medcerts. Adheres to all class guidelines and policies.Works well with others as part of a cohesive team. Maintains professional appearance and attitude. Proficiently performs all required skills.Learns to understand and follow departmental policies, rules, and instructions in the operating room setting.Learns to assist with pulling cases and checks case cart for completeness, obtains supplies and equipment and determines them to be in good working order before a case begins.Learns to prepare the operating room by opening sterile supplies, instruments and sutures based on scheduled procedure and surgeon preference card.Learns how to assist the circulating nurse with implementing a plan of care to include positioning, confirmation of operative site, care of specimens, and room turnover.Works with Operating Room Aides\orderlies learning all surgical equipment including cauteries, OR tables, all operating room furniture, and surgical suppliesUnderstands surgical case cards and picking surgical cases.Always communicates effectively and professionally.Must pass the NCCT-TS-C test within two attempts. This allows the Surgical Technician Intern to advance to the Surgical Technician Resident position.PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Anticipated Occupational Exposure Risks Include the following: Bloodborne Pathogens , Chemical , Airborne Communicable Disease , Radiation
