Overview Fairview Health Services is hiring a Surgical Technologist for the Operating Room at our M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - West Bank and M Health Fairview Masonic Children's Hospital locations in Minneapolis, MN. We’re offering an up to $8,000 sign-on bonus along with a generous relocation bonus up to $5,000! As a Surgical Technologist, you’ll assist in surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, arranging, and passing instruments to surgeons, and ensuring a sterile environment under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. You’ll play a crucial role in supporting the surgical team and maintaining the safety and efficiency of the operating room. Schedule: This position will be working 0.8 FTE (64 hours every two weeks). The shift length will be 8 hours on the day/evening shift with night and weekends rotating as needed. About our OR at UMMC West Bank: We are a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Minnesota and in turn has students, residents, fellows placed in this OR daily. The West Bank has 15 operating rooms, 1 EP Lab, and 1 Cath Lab. We are performing an average of 36 cases per day. High Volume Ortho/Spine/Oral (mainly adults), Peds CV-Hearts/Cardio Thoracic Peds, Neuro/Generals/Urology/Bariatrics, Peds Transplant, Adult Urology, Benign GYN, ENT/Eye/Plastics, Peds Dental, Robotic DaVinci. We provide innovative surgical suites for adult and pediatric patients needing surgical intervention. We are currently renovating additional ORs to complement the existing 4 larger ORs, as well as creating new locker room and OR storage space. Our strong team is continuing to grow even stronger as we offer cross service training under the guidance of our scrub tech supervisor and scrub tech educator. Responsibilities Job Description As a Surgical Technologist, you will be responsible for: Supplying appropriate instruments, suture, and specialty items. Maintaining aseptic technique during all sterile procedures. Ensuring accurate identification and handling of specimens. Counting all required sponges, sharps, and instruments. Assuring availability and accurate functioning of supplies and equipment. Modifying clinical interventions based on population served. Nurturing a culture of improvement, efficiency, and innovative thinking. Anticipating the surgeon’s needs. Following appropriate action in emergency situations. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Complete one of the following by hire date: Military Surgical Assistant; OR LPN (licensed in MN) Surgical Assistant; OR Surgical Technologist training Basic Life Support (BLS) through Health Care Providers (or ability to obtain by hire date) Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program Certification eligible at time of hire Preferred Qualifications: AST certification 1 to 3 years surgical tech experience Other Required Skills: Knowledge of physical, psychosocial, and cognitive developmental needs of population served. Knowledge of age-appropriate outcomes and interventions. Desired Skills: Demonstrate the ability to work under stress in a variety of situations. Ability to work well under a team environment. Excellent communication skills. The ability to prioritize and multi-task in a complex work environment.
