Short Description The trained Surgical technologist, under the direct supervision of the Registered Professional Nurse and/or physician, is assigned as an assistant to specific service areas in the Surgical Suite.Experience Required One year of experience as a Surgical Technologist is preferred.
OREmployment as a Surgical Technologist in a healthcare facility prior to the effective date of NJSA 26:2H–12.62 (December 11, 2011).
ORCurrent service with the federal government, performing surgical technology duties as part of that role. Education Requirements Graduate of a nationally or regionally accredited educational program for Surgical Technologists.
ORSuccessful completion of a training program for Surgical Technology in the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or Public Health Service Commissioned Corps.
OREquivalent experience: Applies to individuals employed as Surgical Technologists (as detailed in the Experience section) prior to the effective date of NJSA 26:2H–12.62 (December 11, 2011). License/Certification Requirements Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Credential administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
ORCertification from its successor or another nationally recognized credentialing organization (e.g., National Center for Competency Testing [NCCT]).
