TRAVEL & WORK LOCATION

This position will require extensive overnight travel (approximately 90% - 100%) in Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi each work week.  The successful candidate will work a 10-hour/4-day work week schedule, Monday – Thursday with occasional overtime work.  This position is flexible to be located in either Calera, AL (APC General Svcs Complex) or Vincent, AL (Logan Martin Dam).  Some relocation assistance may be available if the successful candidate does not already live within a reasonable commute distance.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Survey Technician is directly responsible for performance of fieldwork in the Survey & Mapping Group of Civil Field Services.  Specific responsibilities include:

Collection of survey data in the field using a total station, level or GPS equipment. Construction verification oversight for assigned construction projects. Troubleshooting equipment problems in the field.  Accurate recording and reporting of technical data as it pertains to survey.  Experience with hydrographic survey, laser scanning and unmanned aerial surveys a plus. 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Work Experience:

Qualifying education or proven experience in participating in survey field crew, including:

Land and topographic surveys using GPS or conventional total station equipment. Construction layout surveys. Locating and running control to project area. Processing and downloading data.  Providing data to analyst for mapping. Training of less experienced crew personnel.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of survey methods and standards.  Thorough knowledge of all appropriate safety rules and environmental regulations.  Be able to effectively communicate using Microsoft office products such as Outlook, Excel, Word.  Experience in operation and maintenance of survey equipment (including instrument, data collector, and personal computers).  Ability to obtain DOT certified driver's license and vessel operator license.  Possession of these licenses at the time of application will be a plus. PLS license Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, and/or Alabama is a plus.
