Position Summary: JMT is currently seeking Surveying Technician I - Rodman/Instrument Operators for their New Bern, Sylva and Asheville, North Carolina Offices. The successful candidate for this position may operate surveying instruments, such as conventional and Robotic Total Stations, Static and RTK/VRS GPS, and conventional and electronic levels. Position may be responsible for taking field notes, making field sketches, and entering data into data collectors and computers.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Position and hold the prism rods, or targets, that Instrument operators use for measure angles, distances, and elevations Record survey measurements and descriptive data, using notes, drawings, sketches, and Data Collectors. Run levels and level rods for benchmarks and cross-section elevations Search for property monuments, and other survey points Set and recover stakes, marks, and other monumentation Operate surveying instruments such as prisms rods, Total Stations, and GPS equipment Compile information necessary to stake projects for construction, using engineering plans Maintain equipment and load supplies in vehicles used by surveying crews Perform manual labor, such as cutting brush for line of sight, carrying stakes, rebar, and other heavy items, and stacking rods
