Supports the Chief Surveyor’s Center of Excellence daily work by performing duties as assigned in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards.
Schedule and Location:
The position has a hybrid work schedule consisting of Tuesday through Thursday in the office. Monday and Friday provide the option to work remotely or from the office. This open role is located at our modern ten-story corporate headquarters in Spring, Texas.What You Will Do: (With the assistance or guidance, as needed, of an experienced person, Supervisor or Manager perform one or more of the following:)
Review, revise, and create internal and external documents, including process instructions, Guides and letters. Conduct weekly reviews of published documents utilizing the PI-Tagging Tool to ensure that documents are tagged appropriately to support ABS Freedom Work Packages and if required advise the Marketing team of updates needed for the ABS website. Verify on a semi-annual basis that Survey Forms on ABS website are up to date. Propose Rule and Guide changes using NGRM Review Rule and Guide changes on behalf of Survey and to improve the documents. Prepare Proposed Rule Change content and presentation for Ship Operations Technical Committee Meeting. Run presentations and/or take notes during semi-annual Assistant Chief Surveyor meetings. Author articles for Monthly Newsletters. Advise on content for Learning Organization training courses, including Rule Change Updates for Surveyors. Run Freedom reports and analyze data as appropriate. Investigate, Manage, and/or Organize Vessel Incident Reports and VIR meetings, as assigned. Maintain the Unscheduled Inspection list on a monthly basis and notify the Chief Surveyor before the Class Committee Meetings. Maintain the Force Majeure list on a monthly basis and notify the Chief Surveyor before the Class Committee Meetings. Maintain the Targeted Ship list (TSL) on a monthly basis and deliver it to supervisor prior to the end of each month. Prepare internal and external letters for the Chief Surveyor’s Office, including semi-annual Rule Change Letter to Vessel Owners Represent the Chief Surveyor’s Center of Excellence in dealings with IMS to further the goals and needs of the office. Support Transfer of Class process, as assigned. Engages in contact with clients, internal and external, in order to resolve problems within area of responsibility. Process incoming/outgoing mail or technical data inquiries. Remains knowledgeable of new methods and developments affecting the technical scope of assigned responsibilities and makes recommendations for changes in the processes and programs as warranted by such developments. Devises new approaches to problems encountered and makes recommendations for changes in methods, procedures or application where necessary. Provide guidance, training, and supervision to other people, as assigned.What You Will Need:
Education and Experience
Qualifications from a tertiary institution within a relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum two (2) year program); or Qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant seagoing experience as a certificated ship officer, and Proficiency in the English language commensurate with the scope of statutory certification and services and, before assignment, with future work. Typically, an entry level position for new graduates and/or those candidates with less than five (5) years’ experience in an applicable industry.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to develop a working knowledge of ABS Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and related instructions, as well as the ABS Employee Safety Policy. Knowledge of computer programs or software packages related to job responsibilities. Ability to communicate, orally and in writing, pertinent information relative to assigned area of technical expertise. Responsiveness to customers. Ability to work well with others. Working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental Management Systems. Proficiency in the English language. Ability to reference structural plans and to have a good understanding of shipbuilding practices and ship operations. Knowledge of ships' engineering systems and machinery. Ability to analyze problems and propose solutions.Reporting Relationships:
Reports to a Supervisor or Manager level position and does not have direct reports.
