The Susan D. Flynn Oncology Nursing Fellowship Program was created with the intent of developing the next generation of oncology nurses. The Fellowship includes a comprehensive scope of direct care, observation and learning experiences. Students will have exposure to oncology nursing within the context of a pediatric hospital setting. They will learn about the roles and responsibilities of a pediatric oncology nurse including but not limited to: + Policies, procedures, and, plans of care for pediatric oncology patients in the following specialties: + Hematological Malignancies + Solid Tumor + Bone Marrow Transplant + Neuro-oncology + Patient and family education for the pediatric oncology patient + Clinical Research & Clinical Trials + Chemotherapeutic agents and supportive care + Patient and family support programs + Care coordination amongst the interdisciplinary team (Child Life Specialists, Social Work, Integrative Medicine, PT/OT, + Nutrition, Palliative Care) + Various Internal Oncology-Related Forums As part of this learning/development experience, fellows will complete a case study/nursing rounds presentation addressing an aspect of pediatric oncology nursing. This project will be presented to oncology nurses and nursing leadership at a Fellowship closing ceremony during the last week of the program. Program Schedule: The program will span eight weeks from Monday June 16, 2025 - Friday August 8, 2025 at Boston Children’s Hospital in Boston, MA. + Each fellow will work three 12 hour shifts per week working alongside a registered nurse. + Compensation: Three selected Fellows will be paid a stipend as they complete this Fellowship program.
