Role Description

The Sustainability Lead will continue to advocate for environmental responsibility at every level of the company, to ensure our events achieve the vision and goals set out in our Green Nation Sustainability Charter.   We are looking for someone who will be able to further empower teams and guide sustainable practices across all aspects of the operations of Festival Republic, working with festival management, event teams, vendors, stakeholders and suppliers to embed sustainability into event planning to help us continue to deliver world class events. This position will report to Live Nation’s Head of Sustainability for UK & Ireland.

Who You Are

Competencies / Skills / Knowledge / Experience

Demonstratable prior experience in a sustainability or change management role or taking on sustainability responsibilities.Experience of working in events, entertainment or production is highly desirable.Knowledge and experience of environmental issues, industry standards, best practice, legislation.A qualification in environmental management is desirable, but not essential.Membership or working towards membership of a professional environmental association is desirable.Analytical approach to data and reporting to translate into insights and evaluation.Outstanding attention to detail.Planning and organisational skills, with the ability to delegate to team members and support them in managing change.Excellent time management and prioritisation skills.Experience delivering sustainability training and workshops. Experience writing sustainability communications.

What the role includes

The post requires the education and experience necessary to provide professional and technical advice, identify opportunities for improvement and guide event teams and departments in creating and enacting sustainable strategies and change management. You will support the Head of Sustainability (UK & Ireland) to:

Sustainability Strategy Development and Change Management:

Develop and implement company-wide and individual festival environmental sustainability action plans aligned with the festival's overall goals and local authority objectives.Establish and monitor progress towards key sustainability objectives, including waste reduction, energy efficiency, water conservation, and emissions reduction, in line with the Green Nation Charter.Review policies and procedures as required and assist to assure passage and implementation by appropriate decision-makers.

Stakeholder Engagement and Education:

Work with festival stakeholders, including event teams, suppliers, vendors, sponsors, to ensure their alignment with Green Nation sustainability goals.Facilitate sustainability workshops and initiatives, encouraging staff involvement and guiding colleagues to take on sustainability responsibilities in their specific areas of work.Provide expertise, advice and support on sustainability issues to other departments.Facilitate involvement of local and national environmental organisations to align the festival’s sustainability goals with local and global initiatives.Work with the marketing team on a sustainable communications plan to encourage environmentally positive behaviours and promote awareness of the green initiatives across audiences, staff, artists, contractors and service providers.  Represent the organisation in public events and the industry group’s discussions related to sustainability as required.

Monitoring, Reporting, and Compliance:

Manage the collation, submission and analysis of environmental data including energy, waste, water, and GHG emissions.Ensure compliance with local environmental regulations, standards, and best practices.Site work to assess compliance of individual festivals according to our Green Nation Charter objectives. Provide a comprehensive sustainability report post-festival, outlining achievements, challenges, and opportunities for future improvements.Ensuring event management teams utilise sustainability data and deliver environmental sustainability plans and projects to improve sustainability performance.
