Sustainability & Recycling Manager, North America
Summary of the role
Define the sustainability strategy for SIG in North America aligned to our global principles (Resource+, Forest+, Climate+, and Food+) placing ultimate focus on Resource+ with impactful recycling and circularity tactics. Responsible to build and manage the circularity ecosystem on collection and recycling for SIG Group packaging portfolio that includes BIB, carton and Spouted pouches in AM-N, providing strategic insights to the local and global organization while steering SIG strong sustainability positioning and fostering growth through sustainable structures.
Key responsibilities
Develop and implement sustainability strategy for North America including go-to-market execution in partnership with global sustainability functions and local stakeholders inside SIG and out (industry associations, ONGs, customers, etc).
Understand new market drivers incl. data and trends to extract the relevant information for SIG and our customers. Monitor and provide guidance on significant environmental regulations pertaining to packaging circularity within the region and advise relevant parties.
Represent/advocate and actively participate in industry associations and similar platforms, incorporating technical and legal expertise. Collaborate with key stakeholders concerning environmental regulations related to packaging circularity, including ministries, industry associations, and environmental authorities.
Lead and coordinate the development, implementation and monitoring of country recycling roadmaps and associated actions to ensure progress towards recycling corporate and industry targets.
Establish and oversee the collection, sorting, and recycling infrastructure ecosystem within the region, emphasizing regional collection and recycling initiatives involving critical stakeholders.
Drive the recycling agenda with a view to increasing awareness and ultimate convertion towards SIG sustainable structures (Terra) including our broader portfolio of solutions: e.g. recycled-ready BIB, Alu-free carton structures, etc.
Assume responsibility for monitoring and reporting on Resource+ progress, establishing priority deliverables, and reporting on regional advancements in the context of the global Resource+ strategy, including project prioritization and budget.
You bring these skills, experience & education
Degree in environmental engineering or sustainability sciences and/or business administration, politics with strong link to circular and recycling specialization.
Minimum of 8-10 years of professional experience
In-depth expertise in circularity, recycling and advocacy experience in Governments, NGOs and/or Recyclers is highly valued preferably related to circular economy, waste management and recycling ideally connected to the packaging industry or FMCG.
Personal qualities include an entrepreneurial, strategic mindset, and a commitment to delivering environmentally and socially impactful solutions. Strong problem-solving abilities, with a penchant for remote and collaborative work.
Comfortable navigating ambiguity and promoting change. High influencing skills to implement change internally and externally.
Proven ability to cultivate capabilities within organizations and forge effective partnerships. Skilled at building trust with multiple stakeholders from multiple cultures.
Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
Proficiency in crafting executive-level presentations tailored to diverse audiences.
