Sustainability Reporting & Auditing Lead

Business context

Internal & External expectations on-financial performance and disclosures are evolving rapidly & scrutiny of reported Sustainability information has never been higher. It is critical that we deliver timely, accurate, complete & impactful performance reporting to both internal decision makers & external stakeholders.

Diageo´s ambition is to be the industry leader in environmental sustainability performance, we plan to do this through our ambitious Grain to Glass sustainability targets to ensure that we preserve water for life; accelerate to a low carbon world; and become sustainable by design.

Our Grain to Glass sustainability initiatives have a direct impact on the efficiency of the conversion costs across Diageo production sites (estimated > £730m). Water utilisation, energy efficiency, carbon and waste reductions supports material spend management across the sites, (~£10.5m per year) and/or obviate future business risks – carbon tax, water scarcity, raw material availability and cost. 

Diageo’s ‘top 10’ institutional investors, controlling ~£9Bn in market capitalisation are signatories to sustainability indices, (e.g. CDP), with 81% of FTSE 100 participating in external sustainability indices. Our Grain to Glass sustainability initiatives deliver sustained performance improvements, reduces Diageo’s environmental impacts and interfaces with the external indices organisations to transmit Diageo’s performance, inform the investor community and enhance business reputation. 

About the Role

Sitting within the Process Excellence pillar of the Grain to Glass team, you’ll ensure high quality, fit-for-purpose data & insights to support timely, accurate and robust internal & external reporting. You’ll help drive improved sustainability performance through harnessing data & insights that support informed internal decision making, robust external reporting & delivery of our 2030 Grain to Glass strategic sustainability initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Working closely with our Grain to Glass SME’s, regional leads, regional governance managers, and in-market contacts, you will:

Ensure accuracy and completeness of G2G data across owned databases:

- including annual update of calorific values, emissions factors on our Environmental System

- Management of changed requests

- Ensure EAC’s updated, substantiate any claims.

Lead Compilation of submissions to CDP for water stewardship and climate change.

Orchestrate and lead execution of External Independent Assurance (PwC) with supply sites and markets to obviate risks of Qualified Assurance Opinion.

Help support the execution of, and ensure alignment with, reporting of G2G data in other reporting forums

Support improve & transform scale data governance initiatives that deliver step changes in data capabilities & control

Interpret and succinctly communicate insights and findings from analysis to optimise business processes

Lead on the collation & coordination of external ESG indices reporting, owned by G2G, & support on ESG indices (from G2G) on indices owned by other parts of the business.

Document and manage G2G data governance requirements

Reporting framework review & application to Diageo

Experience, Capabilities & Skills required

Expertise in sustainability, thorough knowledge and familiarity with environmental standards, sustainability reporting frameworks /independent assurance process/sustainability indices & criteria/ EMS.

Track record of leading cross-functional projects and teams in environments where influence is more important than formal authority

Structured, organised self-starter who is comfortable making sense from ambiguity.

Experience in data analysis, cleansing & management

Strategic thinker who recognises which insights drive business value and how best to impactfully communicate these with technical and non-technical audiences.

Strong inter-personnel & communication skills: verbal, written and presentation.

Experience working remotely with different cultures and diverse stakeholder groups
