Role/ Department: Sustainability Specialist/Corporate Sustainability, Inclusion, and Social Impact (CSISI) 

Northern Trust’s Corporate Sustainability Inclusion and Social Impact team is responsible for delivering solutions for social and environmental objectives for our clients and stakeholders via Impact Investing while operating within the framework of Northern’s community investment philosophy. The Specialist, Sustainability role will help lead the development of strategic initiatives and corporate commitments to drive positive, innovative social impact and sustainability, manage critical environmental and social issues, and enhance Northern’s reputation as a leader in Environmental, Social and Governance performance. This role will support all areas of corporate, investor, and client-focused Sustainability matters.
 
The key responsibilities of the role include:
•    Serve as a thought leader on climate strategy and disclosures
•    Uses sophisticated analytical thought to exercise judgement and identify innovative solutions to implementing climate strategy 
•    Ensure our climate strategy framework and standards are up to date, consistent, and transparent
•    Engage with the business and stakeholders on climate and sustainability related inquiries
•    Develop responses and manage client inquiries related to climate and sustainability strategy 
•    Track and monitor development of country specific climate-related requirements related to non-financial reporting
•    Analyze data, manage projects, and research industry trends to inform decisions, set strategic direction, and measure outcomes.


Skills/Qualifications:
•    Minimum 10 years relevant experience with a focus on sustainability strategy and or climate strategy.
•    Specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise in trends and tools used for Sustainability/ESG reporting and disclosure
•    Experience with Net Zero Transition Plans and Frameworks 
•    Experience with key reporting frameworks (GRI, EU CSRD, GHG Protocol)
•    Experience with UN Global Compact, MSCI, Sustainalytics, S&P, ISS and other ratings agencies
•    Experience with investor engagement on Sustainability related topics.
•    Demonstrated ability to communicate complex subject matter in a clear and compelling manner
•    Communicate difficult concepts and negotiate with others to adopt a different point of view
•    Interprets internal/external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes or services
•    Ability to work effectively in a team environment across all levels
•    Exceptional project management and organizational skills, including attention to detail
•    Self-starter with strong attention to detail and ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously while prioritizing the most pressing and impactful matters 
•    May lead functional teams or projects with moderate resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity prioritizing the most pressing and impactful matters

The successful candidate will benefit from having:
•    A College or University degree is preferred
•    Sustainability reporting and disclosure experience preferred

Working Model: Hybrid (#LI-Hybrid)
We have a balanced hybrid working model to ensure you get the flexibility you need, and the successful candidate will spend their time between working in the office and working from home.
 

Salary Range:

$114,700 - 194,900 USD

Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
