Sustainability Sr. Program Manager, Operations Engineering

The EU Operations Engineering team is looking for an experienced Sustainability Project Manager to deliver Net Zero Carbon goals across Amazon´s Fulfillment Network, focusing on automation technologies (conveyance, sortation, robotics) and storage solutions. The role ranges across first- and middle-mile operations via all different project types (Newbuilds, Conversions, Retrofits, Expansions and Initiatives) and covers all three scopes of emissions (direct, indirect and embedded). The ideal candidate will have an extensive sustainability background combined with Engineering Program and/or Project Management experience. The Sr Sustainability Program Manager will play an integral role in delivering Amazon´s sustainability goals and the Operations sustainability glidepath across the EMEA region. This entails goal setting, action planning, identifying technical solutions and setting implementation plans including budget and resource planning. This role includes the responsibility for managing projects at portfolio/program level from definition and business-case building to completion and evaluation. The role requires a person who can demonstrate proven ability to prioritize projects and feature sets, evaluating and setting stakeholders expectations with frequent communication to leadership. The Sr. Program Manager needs to interact and drive various functional teams with a diverse stakeholder group ranging across Sustainability, Engineering, Finance and Procurement teams as well as external partners. This individual needs to be comfortable dealing with a level of ambiguity in order to be successful. Would you like an opportunity to travel and work in multiple countries and cultures? The role will be based in Spain with up to 50% of time traveling either domestically or to other EMEA countries. ** This role can be based in Spain, Italy, France and United Kingdom ** Key job responsibilities • Work with stakeholder teams including Operations Business Unit (CF, ATS, AMZL) Sustainability teams, WW Ops Sustainability, Engineering, Procurement, RME, IT and others to develop, prioritize, and create execution plans for Sustainability initiatives in New Launches and retrofits of existing buildings. • Track carbon footprint of new launches, perform engineering calculations when comparing design alternates, reviewing material/equipment specifications to assess energy usage, efficiency, carbon footprint impact, payback, etc. • Oversee multiple projects in various locations simultaneously while providing positive, clear, concise, and transparent cross team communication for all aspects of project delivery • Liaising with the Project Management Office (PMO) for budget/labor planning, milestones reporting, and highlighting program-related risk. • Establish and operate the information systems necessary to track progress of the execution of Sustainability inclusions across New Build and Retrofit programs that the candidate is responsible for as part of the team. • Perform comprehensive budget tracking, forecasting, and management of assigned projects • Serve as sustainability SME for internal, external stakeholders collecting lessons learned and coaching of other team members on best practices • Excellent communicator adept in challenging issues, facilitating effective collaboration, and providing concise direction. • Manage vendors, designers, and consultants for carbon modelling, carbon reduction, and/or energy-efficiency studies. Basic Qualifications • University Degree, B.S./B.Eng or Master in Sustainability, Engineering, Construction Management, Program Management or comparable field • Proven experience in the development and implementation of sustainability projects in comparable industrial environments • Verbal and written communication skills in English Preferred Qualifications • Advanced degree (MBA, MS, etc.) in Sustainability, Engineering, Construction Management, Program Management or comparable field • Proven record of positive and increasing levels of responsibility, job complexity and management performance • Knowledge about automated material handling systems, packaging technologies and storage solutions • Ability to speak French, German, Polish, Arabic, Turkish, Afrikaans and Zulu • The role will be based in Spain with 50% of time traveling either domestically within the country or to other EMEA countries Amazon is an equal opportunities employer.
