Can you ensure optimal enterprise-wide performance, technical resilience and business continuity?
About the Team
Digital Business Solutions (DBS) is a global Technology team focused on delivering comprehensive digital capabilities that underpin enterprise-wide operations. The DBS team plays a pivotal role in supporting all business systems while actively driving digital transformation initiatives across the organization. The DBS team is integral to the organization's success, providing the technological foundation necessary for efficient operations while fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement across the business.
About the Role
As the SVP for Digital Business Solutions, you will oversee the platforms and applications supporting the global Elsevier business inclusive of DBS (such as Billing, Account Setup, Product Configuration, Customer Support, Marketing technology, CRM, and Business Intelligence). You will ensure the optimal performance, technical resilience and business continuity of all DBS. You will lead a team to meet the needs of internal Elsevier customers across the enterprise including critical areas such as Sales, Finance, Pricing, Product Management, Customer Service, Data Operations and Marketing.
Responsibilities
Responsible for global change, release management, critical incident management and continuous improvement of DBS. Partnering with executive stakeholders in the business units (BU CEOs and VPs of Finance) to ensure that they receive their daily (and other regular) financial metrics in a timely manner. Improving the resilience, accuracy and timeliness of these processes by putting them on par with customer-facing production systems.
Directing, organizing and actively overseeing key projects that affect multiple verticals and cut across numerous functional areas of the business (e.g. initiatives to overhaul our Pricing & Contracting systems, CRM systems, Content Pipeline systems).
Assisting Elsevier and RELX stakeholders in the implementation of RELX-wide finance system (e.g. the “One Finance” system); and owning the ongoing support and enhancements of the platform. Partnering with counterparts in other RELX divisions via the Business Systems Community of Best Practice to share best practices and tools
Supporting an Agile culture and mentality within DBS, and ensure that each team or squad works closely with their stakeholders and product counterparts to set expectations and to receive feedback early and often; and to minimize cost/timeline/scope surprises in the execution of projects.
Monitoring changes or advancements in technology to discover ways the company can gain a competitive advantage via the adoption of these technologies within DBS by analyzing the cost, value and risk associated with these technologies.
Defining and refining an evolving 3-to-5 year roadmap for DBS (“What should the DBS platform(s) look like in 3-5 years, and what should the organization look like – to support the revenue growth of Elsevier while maintaining the margin growth?”). Setting objectives and strategies for the DBS technology team, in a manner that tangibly connects their goals to those of the business units they support.
Selecting and implementing suitable technologies to streamline & optimize business benefits through these systems by making appropriate Buy vs Build decisions. Driving the design of systems and platforms to improve customer experience, provide business insight, achieve regulatory compliance, meet security standards, and drive value to the business
Helping craft business cases for large-scale projects, which may either be internal (to Elsevier or RELX) initiatives or may be a subset of a product-related initiative that requires significant work from the DBS team.
Setting the tone for all DBS team by implementing a culture of diligence, quality, innovation, collaboration and a sense of urgency to achieve defined objectives. Raising the bar for all managers in DBS by setting the expectation that each manager owns the culture for his or her team, which includes productivity improvements, cost containment programs, information security ownership, succession planning, Cares participation, Inclusion & Diversity initiatives, employee morale and EOS survey follow-ups.
