The Head of Internal Audit is responsible for setting and maintaining the divisional risk-based annual audit plan and leading the divisional audit team in its execution. Alongside other Heads of Internal Audit, they are responsible for leading the delivery of the GIA Strategy.

The Opportunity

The Head of Internal Audit is responsible for setting and maintaining the divisional risk-based annual audit plan and leading the divisional audit team in its execution. Alongside other Heads of Internal Audit, they are responsible for leading the delivery of the GIA Strategy.

Primary Responsibilities

• Drive comprehensive internal audit approach for area of responsibility by developing team structure, defining team objectives and implementing an audit communication plan to ensure effective audit preparation and alignment with organizational and regulatory standards

• Provide oversight to the pre-audit processes by guiding and overseeing team preparation for upcoming audits to ensure preparedness for external assessments and compliance with audit requirements

• Inform senior management of potential risk by establishing executive communication, governance and reporting protocols to develop and share inventory of open audit issues and recommend strategies for resolution

• Build and maintain strong, effective relationships across the organization by aligning goals and objectives with Risk Management, Underwriting and the executive management board to implement collaborative approach to auditing compliance initiatives

• Foster a partnered approach to risk mitigation by partnering with business leaders to develop audit issue remediation plans and ensure corrective actions are taken in a timely and effective manner

• Monitor audit processes and team members to ensure internal audits are conducted in compliance with legal standards and approved practices, comply with legal and regulatory requirements and adhere to company standards and best practices

• Plan, allocate and manage financial budget by anticipating expenditures, accurately forecasting resource needs/costs and properly accounting for expenses to meet requirements and achieve fiscal responsibility

• Develop, implement and maintain the strategic IA framework and develop / implement other supporting requirements as considered necessary, with consideration to any regulatory developments

• Leverage and coordinate with External Auditors and Risk Management within the business

• Communicate the IA strategy to senior management, including preparation of relevant materials and conducting presentations to internal stakeholders

• Oversee the development, maintenance, documentation and implementation of key policies and procedures for the conduct of IA activities and engagements • Review, recommend and implement ongoing improvements to the internal audit methodology and available tools

• Continue to improve the audit methodology and toolset, as well as the efficiency of engagements with the business

• Develop effective ongoing liaison with external audit to maximize leverage/benefit from internal audit reviews.

• Oversee reports produced by the audit team and manage the conduct of the largest/most complex audits

• Maintain an up to date knowledge of both the internal and external audit environment

• Create effective risk-based audit timetable and plan to support the ongoing evaluation of risk management within the organization

• Develop, monitor and maintain the internal audit universe and assessment of risk profiles to ensure all key operational activities and key risks are identified and assessed in the context of the risk based audit framework

• Prepare quality reports and presentations to senior management and the relevant audit committee(s) that are clear, concise and professional

• Identify thematic issues across the organization for senior leadership attention • Effective and efficient review of audit work papers, reports and improvement plans produced by the audit team

Required Education

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience

• 10+ years relevant experience

• Extensive internal audit experience

• Financial services industry experience

• Accounting experience

• Insurance industry background

• Experience managing or leading others

• Advanced knowledge of internal audit principles and procedures

• Products and concepts relating to the financial services industry, including financial instruments, financial management, insurance principles, and cash and capital principles

• Products and concepts relating to the insurance industry

• Terminology, function and fundamental capabilities of common computer, software, information and communication technology devices, components, and concepts

• Principles and processes for providing customer service

• Advanced knowledge of auditing controls and testing

• Demonstrated knowledge of team structures and auditing processes that emphasize adherence to quality standards

Compensation

Base pay offered will vary depending on, but not limited to education, experience, skills, geographic location and business needs

Annual Salary Range: $217,000 - $325,000
