The Senior Vice President, Nursing and Chief Nursing Officer provides executive leadership to the nursing organization including strategic oversight of nursing professional practice, development, quality, safety, and research in alignment with the Ascension Strategic Plan.  Collaborates across divisions and markets to influence and drive standard work, efficiencies, and outcomes while cultivating a close connection to Ascension’s mission, values and healthcare ethics.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

Scope and Standards of Practice: Provides leadership and guidance regarding development and implementation of scope and standards of nursing practice in alignment with ANA, AONL and nursing professional society recommendations.Retention: Provides oversight of the development and implementation of evidence based strategies to drive associate engagement, retention, wellbeing and a culture of safety.Regulatory: Provides oversight of ministry wide regulatory activities including proactive mock surveys and creating a culture of ongoing readiness. Sterile Processing: Provides oversight and standardization of sterile processing SOPs, quality indicators and recommendations for capital allocation.Nurse Sensitive Indicators: Provides oversight of the strategy and coordination of Quality initiatives in the nursing ministry wide function with strong collaboration with our clinical network services and interdisciplinary partners. Fosters the use of evidence based practice science related to nurse-driven indicators such as CAUTI, CLABSI, HAPI, falls as well as other clinically relevant opportunities identified in partnership with medical staff providers. 

 

Nursing Research: Provides oversight for the generation of new knowledge for the nursing profession focused on care that is safe, care that is equitable and workforce wellbeing. Continuing Professional Development and Workforce Development: Provides strategic leadership to foster a learning organization, assuring that all associates gain knowledge, skills and professional development to be confident in providing high quality care. Drives to be the academic practice partner of choice by creating psychological safety for the students and faculty we serve. Partners with the Ascension Center for Career Advancement for alignment for entry level staff. Technology and Practice Enablement:  Establishes a point of view and direction for the organization to leverage, utilize, and expand uses of technology to improve practitioner experiences and decrease non-care related work.Mission and Cultural Alignment:  Establishes the foundation and expectation for nursing clinical alignment to the vocation of nursing and our mission of the loving ministry of Jesus as healer.  Leverages the foundation of the healing arts as an expression of our mission through the lens of the patient as the receiver of care.Integration with Other Ministry Wide Functions:  Represents the voice of nursing and point of view with key Ministry Wide Functions, to include, operations, finance, human resources, technology, supply chain, quality, safety, physician leadership, and key partnerships.

Requirements

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

Registered Nurse obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in nursing or diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing required.Master's degree or combination of Bachelor's degree and experience preferred.

Work Experience:

5 years of experience required.10 years of experience preferred.2 years of leadership or management experience required.5 years of leadership or management experience preferred.
