Purpose

PerkinElmer is seeking an experienced and highly motivated R&D Product Owner to drive the development of software solutions for diagnostics industries. As a key member of the Research & Development (R&D) team, the Product Owner will be responsible for defining and prioritizing product requirements, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring that software solutions align with customer needs, regulatory requirements, and business objectives.

This role requires a deep understanding of Agile product management, software development processes, and R&D-driven innovation. The ideal candidate will serve as the bridge between stakeholders, engineering teams, and business leaders to deliver high-impact software products that support scientific research and laboratory workflows.

Responsibilities

Define and manage the product backlog for new product introduction and sustaining initiatives, ensuring that features are well-defined, prioritized, and aligned with the overall product vision and strategy.Collaborate with scientists, engineers, UX designers, and business stakeholders to translate high-level requirements into actionable user stories and acceptance criteria and provide demonstrations of completed work for feedback and alignment.Work closely with Agile development teams to guide sprint planning, backlog grooming, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality software solutions.Work with business stakeholders to conduct market research, competitor analysis, and customer interviews to understand industry trends, scientific challenges, and user pain points.Partner with R&D teams to explore emerging technologies, algorithms, and data analytics that can enhance software capabilities.Ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards relevant to software products in life sciences and diagnostics (e.g., ISO 13485, FDA 21 CFR Part 11).Act as the primary liaison between software engineering, marketing, and commercial teams to align product roadmaps with business objectives.Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure product success and user adoption after product releases.Champion a customer-centric mindset and advocate for usability, scalability, and performance improvements.Drive continuous improvement by gathering feedback from internal teams and end-users, iterating on product design and functionality.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Bioinformatics, Life Sciences, or a related field. 5+ years of experience as a Product Owner, Product Manager, or a related role in software development, scientific computing, or with software products supporting inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) technology. Ability to interpret complex scientific workflows and translate them into user-friendly software features. Experience with JIRA, Confluence, or similar Agile tools including the ability to use these tools to report out on team progress toward goals on a regular cadence. Experience with Balsamiq or similar wireframe tools or experience with Figma or similar prototyping tools. Strong understanding of Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and hands-on experience managing software development backlogs. Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills. 

Preferred Qualifications

User experience with Inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) technology; working with scientific or laboratory software applications with this technology (e.g., LIMS, ELN, data analysis tools). Previous experience working in a cross-functional R&D environment with researchers and scientists. Technical knowledge of software architectures, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), and DevOps practices. Understanding of compliance requirements for regulated software (ISO, FDA, HIPAA, GDPR).

The annual compensation range for this full-time position is $105,000  to $135,000. The final base pay offered to the successful candidate will be determined by factors including internal equity, work location, as well as individual qualifications, such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
