Switcher/Yard Driver
**Job Description** GENERAL PURPOSE Operate shuttles to move trailers from building to building, staging area, and from various loading dock doors. Apply knowledge of commercial driving regulations. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES · Operate a commercial motor vehicle in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and DFA rules, regulations, and policies adhering to all safety practices · Receive instructions via radio and perform trailer shuttling to accommodate logistical needs · Perform daily maintenance checks of shuttle truck and report any malfunctions to the appropriate person · Document all trailer moves into the appropriate system or daily move sheet; submit sheet to appropriate person upon the completion of the shift · Fuel the yard truck as needed · Couple and uncouple tractor trailer units  · Connect and disconnect brake lines as needed · Perform safety check inspection of the trailer according to DOT regulations · Secure all equipment and complete all necessary paperwork at the end of the shift · Communicate effectively and maintain good relations with local staff; report any problems to the supervisor · Attend all driver workshops and training sessions · Represent DFA positively and professionally at all times during interactions with customers or other individuals · The requirements herein are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by employee, but is not a complete list of responsibilities, duties, and skills required. Other duties may be assigned as required **Requirements** EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE · High school diploma or equivalent preferred · Experience driving or shuttling tractor trailers preferred · Must meet minimum age requirements · Must meet DFA requirements for Motor Vehicle Records · Must meet all DOT requirements · Certification and/or License – driver’s license or operator’s permit for at least the three years immediately prior to application KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES · Basic knowledge of DOT procedures, rules, and requirements · Able to perform the duties of this role in all weather conditions · Able to communicate effectively · Able to work in collaboration effectively and foster good teamwork · Able to follow directions and meet deadlines · Able to be punctual · Able to work in a fast-paced environment · Good record keeping skills · Basic math skills · Must be able to read, write and speak English An Equal Opportunity Employer
