Job Title: Senior System Administrator
Location: Must live within 50-mile radius of San Antonio, Texas, but work is 100% remote.
Clearance: Active Dod Secret
Certification Required: CompTIA Security+
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior System Administrator to lead the design, implementation, and management of our cloud infrastructure. This role will oversee the optimization, security, and reliability of the organization's AWS environment, ensuring it aligns with business objectives and industry best practices. The ideal candidate is a hands-on expert in cloud technologies, with a focus on AWS, and possesses strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
The Senior System Administrator shall provide the following core managed services to operate, maintain and secure the AFCEC applications operating in a Cloud environment; Create and manage user and asset accounts IAW the DoD Cloud Computing Security Reference Guide and Department of Air Force Manual (DAFMAN) 17-1302 and DAFMAN17-1304.
Key Responsibilities
+ AWS Infrastructure Management
+ Design, deploy, and maintain AWS cloud environments to support application and infrastructure needs.
+ Implement and manage core AWS services such as EC2, ECS, RDS, S3, VPC, Lambda, and CloudFormation.
+ Optimize resource usage and costs through monitoring and efficient architecture planning.
+ System Administration
+ Perform advanced Windows system administration tasks within the AWS ecosystem.
+ Monitor system performance, identify issues, and apply corrective actions to ensure high availability and performance.
+ Automate operational tasks using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or Ansible.
+ Configure and maintain Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policy Management in multiple environments.
+ Configure and manage the application generated email for all environments.
+ Security and Compliance
+ Implement robust security measures to protect data and infrastructure, including IAM policies, encryption, and security groups.
+ Ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational security standards.
+ Conduct regular security audits and participate in incident response activities.
+ Generate security artifacts to include manual STIG Reviews, SCAP, and Access Management documents.
+ Review ACAS scans/reports to meet mandatory Cybersecurity vulnerability analysis, remediation and reporting.
+ Monitoring and Optimization
+ Leverage tools like CloudWatch, AWS Config, and third-party monitoring tools to maintain system health and performance.
+ Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure and application issues.
+ Configure and manage the backup and restore system, configurations and cloud services.
+ Conduct enhanced log aggregation and analysis, to include the capture of all events, logs, audit information and monitoring information provided by operating systems, platforms, networks, applications and infrastructure.
+ Generate monthly reports identifying all users (to include privileged users). These reports shall also identify the systems and applications each user has access to.
+ Collaboration and Leadership
+ Work closely with database , development, DevOps, and security teams to align infrastructure with application needs.
+ Mentor junior administrators and provide expertise to cross-functional teams.
+ Develop and maintain documentation for system configurations, procedures, and policies.
+ Innovation and Continuous Improvement
+ Stay updated on AWS and cloud technology trends, recommending and implementing new solutions.
+ Evaluate and integrate emerging tools and technologies to improve infrastructure efficiency and capabilities.
Qualifications and Skills
+ Education and Experience:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
+ Minimum of 5-7 years in system administration with at least 3 years focused on AWS cloud services.
+ Technical Expertise:
+ Extensive experience with AWS services, architecture, and best practices.
+ Strong knowledge of networking concepts, DNS, firewalls, and load balancers in cloud environments.
+ Proficiency in scripting and automation using Bash, Python, or PowerShell.
+ Hands-on experience with DevOps tools such as Jenkins, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
+ Expertise in databases (RDS, Oracle) and storage services (S3, EBS).
+ Certifications:
+ Security+ Certification required.
+ AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional or Associate preferred.
+ AWS Certified SysOps Administrator preferred.
+ DISA Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS) Training preferred.
+ Other relevant AWS or cloud certifications preferred.
+ Soft Skills:

+ Proactive approach to identifying and resolving potential issues.
