Local Engineering Manager

Your role and responsibilities

Under the direction of the Local Engineering Manager, the System and Controls Engineer provides software and commissioning support for traction projects of varying complexities locally and globally. This includes leading commissioning activities, global and local support for rail projects. This position will apply power electronics, software and control systems knowledge to ensure completion of all activities efficiently and cost-effectively and in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements. The work model for the role is: onsite. #LI-OnsiteThis role is contributing to the Motion Traction division in Richmond, VA.You will be mainly accountable for: - Assume responsibility for the documentation of converter software through the project gate process. - Apply expertise to software design and carry out project-specific adaptations to Codesys-based software. - Configure the vehicle control unit to suit project-specific adaptations by using Codesys IDE (Integrated Development Environment). - Advice on software tests during converter type-tests and routine-tests in the lab. - Fine-tune and debug the software during vehicle commissioning and provide software support as needed. - Drive the Software troubleshooting activities both at the customer site, Real Time simulator and the factory. - Ability to work with remote teams and adopt to different international working cultures and global teams.Our team dynamics You will join a talented, high performing team, where you will be able to thrive.

Qualifications for the role

- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering and 2+ years of experience in complex embedded systems or power Electronics. - Familiarity with PLC Programming, Ladder Logic, Or Embedded Controls. - Basic knowledge of communication protocols like CANopen, J1939, MVB. - Ability to travel 15-20% for Software Commissioning at customer sites. - Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.Preferred Qualifications: - General experience with Codesys IDE, including creating visualization pages in an IDE for customers.
