Job Details

The System Director of Financial Aid provides leadership, direction, and extensive knowledge of the regulatory requirements for the delivery and coordination of federal, state, and institutional student financial aid programs. This leadership will help promote student success by providing financial resources, knowledge, skills, strategies, and connections with other campus service partners. This leadership position includes managing staff, coordinating system updates, overseeing financial aid processing, ensuring compliance with federal/state regulations and data submissions, managing audits, and providing policy interpretation and communication leadership in light of financial aid’s inherent complexities and pressures.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

 

Strategic, Planning, and Leadership

Create and ensure alignment of short-term and long-term department goals and objectives with College mission and strategic objectives Provide strategic insight on federal, state, and institutional aid programs, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations Serve as main point of contact with U.S and state(s) Departments of Education on financial compliance and audit issues. Serve as main point of contact for other institutional functional areas on federal and state aid matters. Provide strategic insight on federal Title IX and New York State Enough is Enough regulations Monitor and interpret changes in federal and state financial aid, Title IX and New York Enough is Enough regulations and recommend adjustments to College operations and procedures, as appropriate Provide strategic input and develop recommendations for the implementation of related technology applications in support of enhanced services for students and staff relating to Title IV, veteran, and state student aid and scholarships Provide change management leadership for new products, processes, and system deployments Participate in various campus committees for College initiatives Collaborate across campuses to increase financial literacy and help maintain students' eligibility for financial assistance through education programs

 

Administrative Oversight, Operations Management & Compliance

Communicate and interpret institutional policies and governmental regulations to members of the College community Oversee the administration of and reporting on all federal, state, veterans, and institutional financial aid programs and private awards including but not limited to the timely and accurate packaging and disbursement of aid to eligible students and return of funds Monitor the operations of the financial aid function, ensuring high levels of service, efficiency, and student satisfaction Develop, implement, and revise policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable rules and regulations Oversee system integrations with the federal and state financial aid processing systems Maintain the College’s Loan Default Management Plan and lead actions and activities defined therein Oversee the coordination of campus student employment (work-study) Oversee SEVP certification, enrollment, and certification of international students Prepare technical reports for a variety of offices and users (i.e. Senior Leadership)

 

Team Leadership and Development

Develop a healthy office culture that encourages collaboration Ensure appropriate training for College staff is developed and administered Ensure adequate coaching, development, and resources are available to ensure associate success Support professional development for employees

 

 

Qualifications:

 

Understanding of financial aid within a complex institution, including strong experience with utilization of a wide variety of funding sources and the awarding of varied types of financial aid to US and international students Demonstrated compliance mindset Ability to foresee the downstream impacts of decisions to advise school leadership Ability to interpret complex institutional, state, and federal regulations and exercise independent judgment in making decisions Excellent and effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to resolve a wide range of issues Skilled in working effectively in a team environment with a customer service focus Master's degree preferred; bachelor's degree required Minimum of six (6) years of financial aid management experience demonstrating increasing responsibility At least three (3) years of primary responsibility for FISAP and other regulatory compliance reporting Strong skills in using Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other systems and software Knowledge and experience with Banner Student Information System, COD, NSLDS and other federal and state systems preferred Employee cannot be in default of Title IV loans.

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Position requires the use of computer technology/equipment. Position requires standing or sitting in a stationary position as well as the occasional need to lift, carry, push, and/or move objects up to 10 pounds.

 

SALARY: 

$120,000 - $150,000 per year

Please note that the compensation information is a good faith estimate of the base pay for this position. Information about the total compensation package will be provided during the interview process.
