JOB SUMMARY:
The Laboratory Director of the Hospital System will oversee the laboratory operations across three hospital campuses. This leadership role requires a strategic and collaborative individual to ensure high-quality, efficient laboratory services, compliance with regulations, and continuous improvement across all locations. The Laboratory Director of the System will be responsible for managing laboratory staff, developing and implementing best practices, and ensuring that the laboratory operations align with the Hospital System’s overall goals.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Leadership & Supervision: Lead and manage laboratory services across three hospital campuses, including overseeing laboratory staff, fostering a collaborative environment, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality services.
• Operational Management: Ensure the efficient and smooth operation of all laboratory services, including testing, processing, and reporting. Monitor and improve laboratory workflow, productivity, and turnaround times.
• Quality Control & Compliance: Oversee the implementation and monitoring of quality control programs and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory standards, including CAP, CLIA, and HIPAA.
• Budget & Resource Management: Develop and manage the laboratory budget, ensuring appropriate allocation of resources for staffing, equipment, and supplies. Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives while maintaining the quality of services.
• Staff Development: Recruit, train, and mentor laboratory personnel, providing ongoing education and professional development opportunities. Foster a culture of teamwork, continuous improvement, and accountability.
• Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with hospital leadership, medical staff, and other departments to ensure laboratory services meet the needs of patients, clinicians, and hospital goals.
• Performance Monitoring & Reporting: Regularly evaluate lab performance metrics, including test accuracy, patient satisfaction, and turnaround times. Provide reports to hospital administration and stakeholders on lab performance, compliance, and improvement initiatives.
• Strategic Planning & Innovation: Stay current with advancements in laboratory technology and methodologies, recommending and implementing new systems or technologies to improve efficiency and quality of care.
• Patient Safety & Risk Management: Ensure patient safety and risk management protocols are followed within the laboratory environment, proactively addressing any issues related to patient care or laboratory procedures.
EDUCATION AND RELATED EXPERIENCE:
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field.
• Board certification by ASCP or equivalent certifying body.
• Current clinical laboratory licensure as required by state regulations.
• At least 7 years of experience in a clinical laboratory, with at least 5 years in a leadership or management role overseeing multi-site operations.
• In-depth knowledge of laboratory practices, regulations, and industry standards (e.g., CAP, CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA). Strong understanding of laboratory information systems (LIS) and laboratory automation.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize effectively.
Preferred:
• A Master’s degree in a relevant field is preferred.
