System Operations Trainer
**Description** **JOB TITLE** : System Operations Trainer **REQUISITION** : TRA00WN **DEPARTMENT** : Transmission System Operations – Topeka General Office **LOCATION:** Topeka, KS **PAY RANGE** : $104,200 - $138,900 (Min-Mid) **Scheduled Work Hours:** Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Additional hours as required) **Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:** Responsible for development and administration of NERC Standard compliance training that will include Transmission System Operator (TSO) Job Task Analysis (including but not limited to NERC Standard PER-005), NERC Certification testing preparation and NERC Certification Continuing Education Hours (CEH) planning. Acquire and maintain certification as a Continuing Education (CE) provider for training under the guidelines of NERC. Maintain and present NERC compliance training documentation for compliance audits. Coordinate with other department training staff to provide a cohesive overall training program. Design, develop, and deliver simulation training programs related to electric utility Transmission System Operations. Using the EMS Simulator, ensure Transmission System Operators are competent to perform reliability related and other job tasks on the Bulk Electric System. Develop simulator exercises to support job skill training and qualification. Coordinate with EMS and Model Support staff to keep the Simulator functioning properly and the model updated. Capture abnormal system events for use in developing simulator training scenarios to enhance emergency operations skills. Responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining an effective documented simulation training program (using a systematic approach to training), learning objectives, training material, curriculum, methods, procedures, processes, and documentation to improve the effectiveness of training methods and documentation. Provide and/or coordinate job skills and knowledge related instruction in on-line, classroom and one-on-one settings. On an annual basis, perform and document a formal simulator training program assessment, addressing the training needs for internal customers. Complete additional duties and special projects as assigned. Design training manuals, presentations, computer-based training, multimedia visual aids, exams, and other educational materials using knowledge of the methods such as classroom training, demonstrations, on-the-job training, meetings, conferences, and workshops either via group or individual sessions. Create new and update existing manuals and job aids when needed. Serve as a member of the SPP Operations Training User Forum. Participate in the North American Transmission Forum Operator Training Practices Group, including peer reviews. Use contacts and group involvement to develop and implement best practices in System Operations. **Qualifications** **Education and Experience Requirements:** The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Education, Engineering or related field along with related experience in design, development, and implementation of regulatory required workplace training programs. It is preferred that the chosen candidate have electric utility experience in Generation, Transmission and/or Distribution System Operations, with an understanding of the related principles, rules, and regulations that apply to these areas. The preferred candidate will also have knowledge of and experience with SPP and NERC standards and business rules. **Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:** Must demonstrate knowledge and ability to apply adult learning best practices in a workplace setting. Must acquire and maintain NERC System Operator certification at the Transmission level. Must possess skills needed to deal with diverse audiences during presentations and be a good team player. Must have the ability to perform the physical activities of the job. Employee must maintain a high level of professionalism at all times. Candidate should possess a progressive, dynamic attitude toward solving problems, improving processes, and working with other team members. Candidate must have demonstrated skills in math, business writing, effective communication, training, technical reading, organization, planning, scheduling, presentation, interpersonal relationships, teambuilding, mentoring, and conflict resolution. Candidate must have demonstrated skills in the Microsoft Suite. Must be able to handle confidential information appropriately, conceptualize, handle multiple priorities, apply tact, diplomacy, reason, and logic. **Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:** NERC System Operator Certification or will be expected to obtain NERC System Operator Certification at the Transmission Operator level within 5 months of employment. **Working Conditions:** This position does require the selected candidate to successfully operate in a high stress environment, work occasional overtime, be able to handle occasional travel, and be able to distinguish colors on computer screens.
