About the Role

Are you a NERC-certified professional ready to take on a pivotal role in the energy sector? As System Operator II at ATCO Electric, you will be responsible for the real-time operations of our electrical systems and contracted assets within the Alberta Interconnected Electrical System (AIES).

Reporting to the Supervisor of System Operations, you will ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of our electrical system, maintaining it within acceptable voltage ranges and capacity limits. Your expertise will be crucial in supporting the seamless delivery of electricity across Alberta.

What You Get to Do:

Operate, monitor, and control the ATCO Electric interconnected electric system by coordinating operations with other entities, planning, and performing switching activities for maintenance, construction, commissioning, and restoration. Monitor both the non-bulk and bulk electrical systems, utilizing operational tools, and log events as required. Operate ATCO Electric’s SCADA system according to compliance regulations and standards. Maintain compliance with all AESO Rules, Alberta Reliability Standards (ARS), and NERC Standards. Coordinate planned outages with company facilities and third-party entities for construction, maintenance, and commissioning activities. Coordinate and monitor outages and dispatches for generation entities. Complete risk assessments prior to, during, and after system switching. Provide technical guidance to less experienced operators. Provide input into the System Operator Training Program and internal/external policies and procedures for electrical system operation. Participate in appropriate training to effectively perform assigned tasks and responsibilities. Other duties of a similar nature.

What you Bring:

A minimum of 4 years related experience in the operation of electrical systems. Certification as a Journeyman Powerline Technician, Power Systems Electrician, Industrial Electrician, or a Technology Diploma in a related electrical field. NERC Transmission Operator Certification.

The successful candidate will be expected to be on call at pre-determined times throughout the year and, as such, will be required to maintain a residence within 60 minutes of Vegreville System Operations Centre (SOC) to meet service coverage requirements.
