Overview The System Professional Development Specialist Nursing improves the professional practice and role competence of nurses and other healthcare personnel by facilitating ongoing learning, change, and role competence and growth with the intention of improving population health through indirect care. Responsibilities Job Description Learning facilitator. Uses the educational design process and adult learning principles to bridge the knowledge, skills, and/or practice gaps identified through learning needs assessment and evaluation of outcomes, including the development of initial and ongoing competency validation processes. Change agent. Actively works to transform processes at micro, meso, and/or macro system levels. The NPDS uses change management strategies and theories to drive desired outcomes. Advances the profession by contributing to the professional development of others and supporting ongoing professional learning as individuals develop across practice, professional, and educational settings. Influences and advocates for interprofessional practice and learning environments, the education specialty, the profession of nursing, and healthcare. Champion for inquiry. Promotes a spirit of inquiry, the generation and dissemination of new knowledge, and the use of evidence to advance clinical education, guide clinical practice, and improve the quality of care for the patient, family, and/or community (the health care consumer/partner). Advocate for Nursing Specialty. Actively supports, promotes, and demonstrates nursing professional development within a nursing practice specialty, including the promotion of nursing certification. Partner for practice transitions. Supports the transition of nurses and allied nursing staff across practice and learning environments, roles, and professional stages. Supports and partners with nursing practice professionals, nursing operations, and other stakeholders with the shared goal of achieving the organization’s mission and vision. Qualifications Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served. Partners with patient care giver in care/decision making. Communicates in a respective manner. Ensures a safe, secure environment. Individualizes plan of care to meet patient needs. Modifies clinical interventions based on population served. Provides patient education based on as assessment of learning needs of patient/care giver. Fulfills all organizational requirements. Completes all required learning relevant to the role. Complies with and maintains knowledge of all relevant laws, regulation, policies, procedures and standards. Fosters a culture of improvement, efficiency and innovative thinking. Performs other duties as assigned.
