The Federal Systems Technology department of the USFGMD is responsible for service supporting a charter implementing and integrating complex systems sold worldwide. As a USFGMD System Technologist, you will be exposed to a wide variety of communications requirements in both Pre Sale and Post Sale phases of a project.
Job Description

This position is located in the Washington DC area.  The applicant must be willing to travel 10-25% of the time and be self-motivated.

Responsibilities include optimization and support of complex communication systems and software applications, including advanced troubleshooting of software driven electronics, provisioning of communication system infrastructure and performance optimization of RF and Broadband systems.  Maintain, optimize, test and document complex communications systems.Perform preventative maintenance routines to ensure proper system operation with focus on trend analysis and documentation of resultsPerform maintenance of server hardware/OS and software infrastructure and troubleshooting to resolve system/application related issues.Develop solutions to difficult technical problems encountered as part of system maintenance, upgrades or support issuesTeam with engineering, project management and sales personnel to effectively maintain, optimize and support advanced communication systems which meet or exceed customer expectationsProvide weekly reports of activities and accomplishments

Specific Knowledge/Skills:

2 year associate degree in electronics or IT preferred, or equivalent on-the-job experienceSecurity +, CompTIA or related certificate is highly desirableProficient in computer network installation, configuration and maintenance systems to include cabling, routers, switches, firewalls and bridges. Knowledge of wired communications systems, such as local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN)Experience with logging recording systems, RF interfaces, wired/wireless communications systems and networking equipmentComputer literate with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and AccessMust have a current, valid driver’s license and no traffic violations

Strong self-management skills and interpersonal communication skills to work closely with Motorola’s customers and subcontractor (MSS) community, as well as Motorola Sales, Engineering, Project Management, and customer service teamsSelf-motivated and self-managed to perform the required duties at a distance from direct supervisionAbility to solve customer problems quickly during stressful situationsExcellent communication (oral and written) skills and must also have high sense of urgency, strong work ethic and is results oriented

Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contract.


Basic Requirements

Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position.

5+ years experience in one of the following: Electronics Technician, System Technologist, System Manager, Administrator/User, Customer Support Manager, System Engineering or Pubic Safety System Networks​ or Field Service Experience with one or more of the following: LMR, RF systems, Radio Communications, Radio Frequency, Electronics, Wired/Wireless Communication Systems, IT Systems, Telecommunications, Public Safety, Engineering  or Networking equipment.
