This role will exist within the Intern Program and is intended to attract top performing undergraduate college students who are studying Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Software, Biomedical). The role is meant to provide undergraduates projects, focused propelling Smith+Nephew forward, while also advancing the student’s career. The program will provide meaningful work experiences for Interns along with team building events and social activities when available. Successful candidates for the Intern position will gain valuable experience in medical device industry which could shape career decisions and create future employment opportunities.
System Verification engineers serve as the safety net for the entire organization before shipping products to the customer. System Verification engineers work with the systems engineers, software product owner, software, and hardware development engineers to drive and lead the test plan for system verification & validation and execution for the new product development. The position will be based in Pittsburgh, PA.
What will you be doing?
Perform a variety of tasks of verification testing for a surgical robotic device.
Define software or hardware verification plan. Determine sample sizes, creation, management and ownership of test plan and defect management.
Design new test method, supporting AI assisted test case development as well as building the automated testing platform for the surgical robotics.
Implement verification testing (both manual and automated) for medical devices.
Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis of systems defects and enable R&D team to identify fixes.
Manages test equipment for test efforts, ensuring complete and accurate inventory along with production equivalence.
Present testing objectives and status at planning meetings.
What will you need to be successful?
Education:
Must be currently matriculated at an accredited university as an undergraduate majoring in Electrical, Mechanical, Biomedical, Software or equivalent applicable engineering.
Must be in excellent academic standing, with a 3.0 preferred
Experience:
Previous applicable intern, co-op, part-time or apprenticeship experience is preferred
Programming, such as C/C++, Python, Java, MATLAB, is preferred
Demonstrated leadership experience with effective project management experience preferred
Strong communication skills including technical writing, listening and speaking; ability to influence others
High learning agility with the ability to analyze and synthesize data.
Must be able to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and drive project completion
Independent thinking and the ability to work within a team is required
Ability to assess technical issues and develop solutions applying an analytical approach to problem solving
