Job Description:

At GDIT, people are our differentiator. As a Systems and Data Center Administrator supporting various health programs, you will be trusted to work on critical infrastructure including structured cabling, assisting in racking and stacking of devices, and decommissioning. You will also be trained on maintaining a DCIM toolset working with NLYTE. This role is an essential position and will be onsite in Rensselaer, NY.

This position will work the 1p-9pm shift, but there may be a need to work during the day at times which will be preplanned well in advance. Candidate may also be tasked with traveling for DR exercises which are planned well in advance. Training will happen during the day for the first 1-2 months.

In this role, a typical day will include the responsibilities below:

Candidate will assist with System OS updates and Patching for Windows and or Unix systemsProviding monitoring, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting support of information systems and their associated telecommunication methods.IE Fiber and copper cablingPerforming all required elements related to accurately tracking cables within the Data CenterAssisting the various Lines of Service with racking and stacking of devices if neededDocumenting cabling concerns within the environment and putting together plans with other Lines of Service and customers to remediateKeeping the Data Center Manager informed of any unusual conditions or problems encountered in the performance of daily dutiesInteracting with all levels of management when working through and planning remediation efforts for cabling within the Data CenterUsing a variety of interactive tools and processes to determine the health of physical cabling within the Data CenterPerforming various tasks related to equipment installs and decommissions including working with Corporate asset Management on the removal of said equipmentGenerating trouble tickets for tier 2 and 3 support to other Lines of Service as the work at hand sometimes crosses the responsibilities of multiple lines of serviceMaintaining and updating record and tracking databasesDuring implementations where work is required at night in a maintenance window, some planned night work may be required.

Required qualifications:

BA/BS and 2+ years of experience or equivalent years of experienceSystem administration tasks including racking, stacking and setting up server equipmentAdministrator experience working with patching software and remediating security vulnerabilities.Experience and/or familiarity with running, decommissioning and documenting network Ethernet and fiber cabling.Experience working in a corporate environmentStrong organizational and multitasking skillHighly efficient in Visio, MS Excel and other MS products

Preferred qualifications:

5+ years of related Large Scale Data Center experienceCertification for network cablingNetwork / Communications degreeCertification such as Sec+, Nutanix, or VMWareRelated Enterprise IT experience administering a DCIM software suiteExperience installing network cabling within a large-scale data centerFamiliarity with mainframe systems and their hardware elements.

The likely salary range for this position is $62,962 - $72,450. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
