In Office Requirement: 5 days a week onsite

The NORAD & USNORTHCOM, USSPACECOM Operations department provides multidisciplinary systems and operational engineering for North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), and United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM), and Headquarters United States Space Command (USSPACECOM). The department is a vibrant element of the N250 Joint Staff (JS) and Combatant Command (CCMD) Division, emphasizes collaboration and sponsor mission orientation. Several MITRE corporate initiatives have roots or leadership in this department: Homeland Defense, thought leadership for Space as a Warfighting Domain, resiliency analysis for critical infrastructure, and lead for MITRE's Arctic Experimentation efforts.

As an Intern working in systems engineering for this department, you will work as part of a team of interns and early career staff. You will apply your knowledge and gain experience with one or more of the following: 

Digital and model-based engineeringMission and system of systems engineeringAI-enabled systems engineeringAgile systems engineeringSystems security engineeringMechanical engineering, structural analysis, thermal dynamicsAerospace engineering

Basic Qualifications

Must be a student enrolled full-time pursuing an accredited degree seeking program in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related degree program.  Must continue to be enrolled full-time the semester following the internship.Knowledge of systems, mechanical or aerospace engineering theory.Sustained excellence in academic performanceHigh level desire to help their nation solve its most critical challenges

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in Systems Engineering tools such as: MagicDraw, Cameo Enterprise Architecture, Rhapsody, Stella, iThink, Anylogic, Systemitool, or relevant SE design tools.Advanced Math through Calc II, Experience with modeling tools (e.g. SysML, MATLAB)Proven ability to work independently to learn new systems, mechanical, and/or aerospace engineering technologies, techniques, processes, languages, and best practices.Experience with Systems Modeling Language (SysML) and/or Unified Modeling Language (UML)Experience with Digital EngineeringExperience with Model-based Systems Engineering (MBSE)Science & Technology (S&T) capability assessments, trade studies, and analysis of alternativesExperience with prototype designCADSustained excellence in academic performanceHigh level desire to help their nation solve its most critical challenges
